Sebadoh Announce NEW Album

Defend Yourself

It's official. The first new LP in 14 years is coming from indie-rock icons, Sebadoh. Lou Barlow, Jason Loewenstein, and Bob D'Amico announced the release today along with a proper release of the previously digital / show-only Secret EP.

Defend Yourself is being billed as a return to Sebadoh's DIY roots.

I picked up a copy of Secret back when I saw Sebadoh last summer. It's classic Sebadoh. The recording is lo-fi; and it spans folk pop, rock, and alt-country over the course of its five songs. If Secret is any indication of what's to come on Defend Yourself, then things are looking very good for Sebadoh's return.

Barlow tells Spin that, in contrast to working with Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh record with "whatever semi-broken down [gear] we have lying around." Following their great performance at Bowery Ballroom, I hope they at least got to replace the tuners on that bass.

Both Defend Yourself and Secret are being released by Joyful Noise. You can stream Secret over at Spin or at Sebadoh's Bandcamp page. Physical copies are available now via mailorder and hit stores on June 25th. Defend Yourself arrives on September 17th.
