What's Going On: 8/21, 8/22, 8/23 & 8/24, 2014

The Off White are back. Corinna, Corrina play a yard in Howell. The Creeptones headline The Saint. Paper Streets open for Cymbals Eat Guitars.

Into the Woods

Last week of summer camp for the cooldaughters. That means that CoolDaughter #1's theater camp troupe will be putting on the production they've worked on all summer. There will be three performances of Into the Woods at CBA's Henderson Theatre this weekend (Friday evening and two performances on Saturday). CoolDaughter #1 plays Sleeping Beauty. It's a very small part, but she had a blast working with her friends all season.

There's plenty of music of the non-musical theater variety all weekend, starting Thursday. Sound Waves and Little Dickman Records bring Psychiatric Metaphors and The Off White back for only their second area performances with a free show at APYC. Songwriters on the Beach has Simone Felice and Cranston Dean for free in Belmar. The Vansaders / Hot Blood tour brings them all the way to Jersey City's Lamp Post for a show with Irate Primate (featuring Hot Blood drummer Billy Straniero).

Things get started -- weather permitting, I guess -- on a very busy Friday early with Yardfest in Howell Basementfest in Jackson. The lineup is absolutely packed. Among the many bands performing are Sorority Noise, Mumblr, Have a Good Season, Killer Waves, and our buds Corrina, Corrina

In the evening, you can head to Asbury Lanes to participate in or just watch the return of "Bachelors and Bachelorettes" to Asbury Lanes. Sound man and trivia quizmaster Gentleman Jim Norton hosts with help from DJ Values.

The Brighton has Dave Smalley of All and Dag Nasty who gets support from Very Americans, Smalltalk, and Honah Lee. The Shady Street Show Band take over Langosta. The Creeptones headline The Saint with Airacuda, Atlas Bloom, and Bianca Monica. George Clinton is at Starland. And, of course, Into the Woods premieres in Lincroft.

Saturday night sees Wreaths at APYC with Paleface. Local friends The Vansaders and Hot Blood bring their tour of this great Northeast Megalopolis of ours to Brooklyn for a show at The Gutter. The Saint has two shows: Dwight & Nicole / Harper's Fellow (early), The Fave / Davey and The Trainwreck (late). Indie rock icons Guided By Voices headline The Stone Pony.

On Sunday Staten Island / NJ indie rockers Cymbals Eat Guitars are at Asbury Lanes with Grooms, Acid, and Paper Streets. Deal Casino continue their summer run of free shows at The Saint with Ian Bamberger and Jamie Coppa.

Enjoy your weekend. If you're a fan of musical theater, maybe I'll see you over at CBA on Friday. CoolDaughter #1 has been practicing that yawn all summer long.
