What's Going On: 12/10, 12/11, 12/12 & 12/13, 2015

Little Dickman Records / CoolDad Music Holiday Benefit This Sunday

We're getting into serious holiday mode. Even weeknights are packed with shows and benefits and celebrations. Here at CDMHQ we're into our fifth night of latkes and presents with a few important coolfamily birthdays just around the corner. This weekend is appropriately busy.

On Thursday, our friends in Sharkmuffin play a Bernie Sanders benefit at Brooklyn's Gateway with Darkwing, Garbage Brain, Haybaby, The Mad Doctors, Nonsense, and Blasteroid. I think the Fruit and Flowers tape release / tour kickoff is also part of that one. The Lone Bellow come to House of Independents in Asbury Park. The Battery Electric play a free show at Johnny Mac's that includes wrestling and a toy drive.

On Friday, Anchor's Bend hosts "Locals' Christmas" happy hour featuring Doug Zambon, Chris & Charlie Brown, Frank Natale, and DJ Mike Vilapiano. The Ribeye Brothers are back at APYC with their compadres Von Mons. Martha Davis & The Motels hit Brighton Bar. Henry Rollins does sold-out spoken word at HOI. Sharkmuffin play a marathon set at Porta Jersey City to celebrate Amy from Little Dickman's birthday. Big Pussy's Gangster Squad and Soul Cruisers, featuring John Cafferty play Wonder Bar.

Shellshag hold a Brooklyn record release party for Why'd I Have to Get So High? at Brooklyn's Bell House on Saturday. Joining them are Vacation, Bad Canoes, and Downtown Boys. A Wilhelm Scream are at Brighton Bar with Banquets, Pears, and Rebuilder. Henry Rollins plays sold-out Night Two at HOI. Jersey City's Monty Hall has The Real Kids and Baby Shakes. Rocky Catanese and The Chapter play the inaugural show at Hillsborough's Moon Room with Feeny, Help Me Help You, Hierophant, and Motor Heart Man. NGHTCRWLRS are at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Passaic with Hurry, Jacobus, The Planet You, Tula Vera, and Din.

Also on Saturday, Dunellen Theater hosts the release of Arose Such a Clatter. It's an EP of Christmas songs featuring Fun While You Wait, Garden State Line, Milan and The Sour Goat, P-Funk North, and Backyard Superheroes. The show and EP serve as a toy drive and fundraiser for the US Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program.

The big day around here is Sunday. That's the day for the second annual Little Dickman Records / CoolDad Music Holiday Benefit. All proceeds from this year's show will benefit Asbury Park's Mercy Center. The show starts at 3pm at Porta Asbury Park and features a whole bunch of our loved ones with performances by Dentist, The Jolly Daggers, The Rock n Roll HiFives, Overlake, Black Flamingos, TV Tramps, Renee Maskin, Chris Brown, and Dan Waszay. There will be music, pizza, prizes, and plenty of good cheer. So come out to that one, bring your friends, and help your neighbors.

That's not the only thing going on on Sunday, though. You've also got Deal Casino's JoeP playing brunch at Langosta. The Stone Pony hosts the Lakehouse Music Academy Family Holiday Show early and a benefit for Kelly DiCapua later in the day. The Saint has Solar Circus, Doobie Decibel System, and David & Valerie Mayfield.

Get after that holiday gift buying if you've been putting it off, and come on out to Porta Asbury Park on Sunday afternoon.
