What's Going On: 9/15, 9/16, 9/17 & 9/18, 2016

Screaming Females headline Friday night at The New Alternative Music Festival in Convention Hall.

New Alternative Music Festival

Looks like it's going to be another weekend of wall-to-wall bands for me as Don Giovanni Records' New Alternative Music Festival comes to Convention Hall on Friday and Saturday. That comes highly recommended by me, but there's plenty of other stuff for you to check out as well.

Reagan Youth, Public Serpents, Cryptkeeper Five, and Top Nachos play Brighton Bar on Thursday night. It's the return of Live Band Karaoke with The Golden Boyz at House of Independents. Metalachi come to Wonder Bar with help from Lost In Society as The Clash and Yawn Mower.

On Friday night, Predator Dub Assassins are at Langosta. Lunch Ladies and Paper Streets are at New Brunswick's Paradise: Lost along with The Head, Rhea, and Ego Death. The Everymen hit Piano's in NYC with Carnival Youth, Organised Scum, Faulkner, and Matt Butler. Mr. Payday, The Anderson Council, and The Rock n Roll Hi-Fives play Pino's in Highland Park. There's Wild Child, a doors tribute, at Wonder Bar.

Friday is also Day 1 of the New Alternative Music Festival in Convention Hall. Doors open at noon with music starting at 1pm. Friday's sets include Screaming Females, Ought, P.S. Eliot, Tenement, Radiator Hospital, Sammus, Pinkwash, Giant Peach, Izzy True, and more. Get there and take in as much as you can. Asbury Park Yacht Club hosts the Asbury Park Feminist Collective / Stage A Revolution presented after-party, which is free and features Reflowered Girlz, Secret Mountain, Teenage Halloween, and Fake Limbs.

Saturday's Day 2 of the NAMF features Downtown Boys, Girlpool, Laura Stevenson, Rye Coalition, Mal Blum, Sex Stains, Jeffrey Lewis, Outer Spaces, Upset, and more. The APYC after-party has Algebra II, Fortune Yeller, Wild Rice, and Finchler.

Also on Saturday, The Moms hold their record release at Horseshoe Tavern in Morristown with help from Corrina, Corrina, Bigbutt, and American Lions. Tor Miller comes to House of Independents with Owel and WAYNOWAY. Roadside Graves play the first of two weekend shows (more on that in a minute) at Pino's with Lesser Séamus and A Halo Called Fred. Experiment 34 are at The Saint with Quaker City Night Hawks, Flatleaver, and Jigmakers.

On Sunday, we've got a very special CoolDad Music Presents show. Roadside Graves bring the second of two extremely rare New Jersey performances to Anchor's Bend where they'll be joined by Lowlight and The Mikey Erg Band. This is a free show. Doors open at 3:30pm and Roadside Graves will be kicking things off at 4, so arrive early. This is one that I'm really happy about being able to pull off, and I hope to see you there.

Also on Sunday, Satan's God, Other Things, and C.R. and The Degenerates play an afternoon show at In The West in New Brunswick. Teenage Halloween head up to Brooklyn's Shea Stadium for a show with Tall Juan, Nail Polish, and Edgar Clinks.

That's a pretty packed weekend. Do come say hi at Anchor's Bend if you can. CoolMom will be there, and I'd love to introduce you.

  1. Stopped by Anchors Bend early Sunday (about 1:30 PM) to ask about the show. Was told it was cancelled. What a shame.
