Summer's Here?

It's starting to look a lot like summer on this last weekend before Memorial Day. We've got the pool open here at CDMHQ, and temperatures have been climbing. And the traffic here on the Jersey Shore already looks to be picking up. You can get in one, last weekend before the arrival of the invading hordes with a bunch of stuff to choose from this week.

Thursday night ends our long national nightmare of my never having seen Charly Bliss live when they play the record release party for Guppy at Brooklyn's Baby's All Right with Yucky Duster and True Dreams. Locally, Hot Rod Circuit come to Brighton Bar in Long Branch with Rocky & The Chapter and Toy Cars. Eli Paper Boy Reed and his band kick off summer at the Langosta Lounge Food and Drink Complex in Asbury. Overlake play a show at Brooklyn's Main Drag Music with Sic Tic and Jessica Ackerley. dollys kick off their tour with Deal Casino at Philly's Milk Boy with a show that also includes The Burgeoning.

It's more free music at The Asbury on Friday night when Beatie Wolfe, Colton Kayser, Shaune Pony Heath and Rachel Rourke play Soundbooth Bar. We're Ghosts Now, Ruby Bones, and Brian Erickson are at APYC. A Deer A Horse play Clash Bar in Clifton with Hollow Eyed, Kult Of Mary, and Young House. Richard Barone and Ricky Byrd are at Crossroads in Garwood with The Cucumbers and Amanda Conti. Fruit & Flowers play Brooklyn's Gutter Bar with Ted's Dead, Treads, and Dead Sexy Sheila. Langosta has two sets from Des & The Swagmatics. The Brixton Riot, Stuyvesant, and The Anderson Council play a free show at Pino's in Highland Park.

Friday night also kicks off this year's Jersey Shore Festival in Seaside Heights. The festival is free and runs May 19th to May 21st. There's way too much to list here individually, but participating bands include Fun While You Wait, Underlined Passages, Phoebe Nix, Deaf Rhino, Yawn Mower, and many, many, many more. On Saturday night, Fruit & Flowers play The Bronze in Brooklyn with Buffy, Angel, Willow, Xander... ...no wait... ...it's actually with Drug Pizza, Mean Siders, Empath, and Psychic Selves. Sorry. It's the 6th Annual Pushing Up The Daisies benefit at the Historic Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery with Delicate Flowers, Morus Alba, Whiner, and more. Toothgrinder are at House of Independents with Hammer Fight. John & Peter's in New Hope hosts Steve Burks, Matt Cook, Julian Fulton, Wax Wav, and Foes of FERN. Tiger's Jaw play The Stone Pony for a cheap show sponsored by Asbury Park Brewery and Sixpoint Brewery. Tierney's in Montclair has Nylund, Bible Gun, and The Porchistas.

Black Flamingos will be celebrating the release of their latest, Neon Boneyard, with a free in-store at Jack's Music Shoppe in Red Bank on Sunday. The Brighton Bar is hosting a memorial for Dave Nappo. Also on Sunday, it's the final Noise In The Atttic of the season at The Inkwell in Long Branch with Francis Lombardi, Mike Oregano and more. It's the return of Creeptones at Langosta Lounge with Phoebe Nix and Tony Appleseed. Miranda Taylor of Exmaid heads up to Jersey City's Pet Shop for a show with Din, Slight, and Fleece. Avery & The Man Devils and Rick Barry play The Saint with David Dondero and Lords.
