Here We Go...
See. I told you yesterday. 2018 is starting to stir. We got a bunch of cool things today.
Acid Dad, "2Ci"
New York's Acid Dad released the first single from their forthcoming, self-titled LP today. The album is due March 9th from Greenway Records. Acid Dad seem to do a good job of balancing psychedelia with accessibility, and "2Ci" leans more heavily towards the latter.
The band will be heading out on tour throughout the winter and spring. Our friends at Little Dickman Records will be hosting Acid Dad's stop in Asbury Park at The Saint on April 13th.
Trace Mountains, "Turn Twice"
Trace Mountains is the solo project of LVL UP's Dave Benton. He'll be releasing his first full-length, A Partner to Lean On, under the name via his own Figure 2 RC on March 30th. "Turn Twice" is the first single from that record.
The song is reminiscent of some Elephant 6-era pop. There's lots of auto-tune type vocal effects giving things a bit of a dreamy, other-worldly feel.
Superchunk, "Erasure"
Based on the singles I've heard so far, it seems like Superchunk will be giving the world just the album it needs when they release What a Time to Be Alive on February 16th via (of course) Merge.
On "Erasure" Stephin Merritt (The Magnetic Fields) and Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee) supply (their very distinctive) guest vocals throughout, which really shine during the uber-power-poppy chorus. The song, according to the band, deals with the ways in which the powerful often attempt to silence the marginalized in our society.
Superchunk's April 7th & 8th shows in NYC are already sold out, but it looks like there may still be tickets for the show at Union Transfer in Philly on April 4th. The band sound pretty fired up, and these shows should be great.
