Colton Kayser Joins The Antics on Lead Guitar. Stream Their New EP.

Emily Jones

The Antics are an indie rock band from Princeton, NJ. They claim a diverse set of influences including Joy Division, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Doors, and The Strokes. The resulting sound is a combination of those post-punk and garage rock influences. I remember them as a bright spot on a weird, weird evening back in 2013 when Bow Wow Wow (sort of) played Brighton Bar.

The band have released music at a pretty relentless clip over the last year and a half, and they continue to do so despite lineup changes that have left singer / guitarist Luke Meisenbacher and drummer Josh Reitan as the only two remaining founding members. Last month, The Antics began streaming their latest effort, the six-song Emily Jones. Single "Forget" highlights The Antics' post-punk leanings pretty well, the throbbing bassline and distant vocals calling to mind some of the sounds of a darker, more CoolDad-was-still-in-high-school time.

The Antics will celebrate the release of Emily Jones with a show at Teaneck's Mexicali Live on Thursday, June 11th, that also features Dahl Haus, Pneumonia, and the MacHina. The show will also mark the debut of Asbury Park singer / songwriter Colton Kayser on lead guitar for the band.
