Smalltalk (top), Dollys (bottom left), and Play Date (bottom right) |
Court Tavern, Lakehouse Music Academy
Just a quick post to mention some things from this past weekend. It was a weekend that gave me a kind of "everything is connected" feeling.
On Friday night, I headed to New Brunswick for my first-ever trip to The Court Tavern and the second-ever show by Neptune City's Smalltalk. Smalltalk did songs from their recently-released, self-titled EP as well as a few songs that should appear on their next release, which is due out in time for their show at Asbury Lanes in July.
I managed to get to New Brunswick in time to catch Dollys again, and they continue to impress me.
Then, yesterday, CoolDaughter #2 and I headed to Asbury's Lakehouse Music Academy for an afternoon set from Play Date, the family music project of husband and wife duo Greg Attonito and Shanti Wintergate. Greg, of course, is the lead singer for The Bouncing Souls; and there were lots of tiny Bouncing Souls T-shirts at the show.
CoolDaughter #2 is 7, and there were quite a few kids younger than she is at the Play Date show. She tried to seem cool and above it all, but I could tell she had a blast. I know I did.
The connections? Well, Bouncing Souls guitarist Pete Steinkopf also plays guitar in Smalltalk, so there was a Bouncing Souls theme going on. Also, Dollys drummer Natalie Newbold teaches at Lakehouse Music Academy and sold us our tickets for Play Date. CoolDaughter #2 has been making noises about learning the drums, and I think I could see a flash of inspiration in her eyes as I told her about Natalie and her band.
You can see pictures from all three sets in the Flickr galleries.
Stay tuned here for some previews of shows happening this coming weekend. See you out there.
