What's Going On: 8/14, 8/15, 8/16 & 8/17, 2014

Shows this weekend from lots of our favorites: Hot Blood, Dollys, Dentist, Overlake, and Corrina, Corrina.

Not-So-Dog Days

"You know what I smell?" my grandmother used to say.

"What, Grandma?"

"I smell SCHOOL."

It's coming. I think I can smell it, too. We've still got a few weeks left before that, though. And it looks like just an absolutely amazing weekend on tap weather-wise with sunny skies and temperatures right around 80. It's a great opportunity to enjoy some outdoor summer weekend activities during the day followed by some cool shows on some cool evenings.

You can get started right away on Thursday. Asbury Lanes features an evening of Philadelphia-based rock with Steady Hands, W.C. Lindsay, Wild Rompit, and Hundred Acre Woods. Sound Waves brings a free show to the boardwalk with Those Modern Cavemen, Gravity Well, and Corrina, Corrina at the Yacht Club. WBJB gives you the opportunity for some outdoor sounds on the beach with Waiting for Henry and EdTang and The Chops in Belmar. Our buds over at Speak Into My Good Eye present Deal Casino and Heat Thunder at The Brighton; while, up in JC, Overlake play The Lamp Post with Perennial Reel and Real Good. Dentist do an acoustic set at The Court Tavern.

On Friday, Red Bank's Eastern Anchors and New Brunswick's Zero For Conduct celebrate the release of their split 7" at The Court Tavern along with the Milwaukees, Duochrome, and 4444. Thomas Wesley Stern support The Infamous String Dusters at The Stone Pony. Hot Blood and The Vansaders kick off their late summer tour with a show at The Wunderloft that also features Chris Brown and Delaware's Floaters. Skid Row is at Starland.

The Saint has two shows on Saturday starting with an all-ages matinee featuring Ivy League, Halogens, From the Ground, Daoud, and Jackson Tave. Smile Brigade headlines The Saint's evening show. APYC is hosting a listening party for the new Parlor Mob EP.

United Nations come to Asbury Lanes on Sunday. Deal Casino play their free show at The Saint with Dollys, Vandalay, and Hi Ho Silver. Lakehouse Music Academy presents their final acoustic punk show of the summer with Black Bear Mute, Steve Burks, and Jason Ray Strickland.

There are plenty of opportunities to make the most of what's left of the summer. See you out there. Enjoy.
