Holy City Zoo started in New Brunswick's basement scene way back in those heady days of the late aughties. Since then, the members have gone onto other bands and other projects; but Holy City Zoo never died. The foursome of Frank DeFranco, Joe Lanza, AJ Russo, and Brian "Dreads" DePhillis have stuck together through a varied collection of EPs and the ups and downs of their musical / non-musical lives.
2016 will see the release of the band's first LP, No Bunting, via Sniffling Indie Kids, the active NJ label co-founded by DeFranco and Lanza. Lanza and DePhillis recorded the album, while Jeremy Cimino handled mixing / mastering. Rumors of a No Bunting 2014 release proved to be just that, but now the album is done. The band have the CDs in hand. It looks like Holy City Zoo's No Bunting will be the NJ locals' equivalent to Chinese Democracy rather than Detox.
Today, Holy City Zoo give us a preview of what's to come on No Bunting with the premiere of "Stan Lee's Cup." The song is at times melodic and at times chaotic. It has its roots in both post-hardcore and 90s alt rock. It's a wild, 3-minute ride through many of the different sides of Holy City Zoo and sounds like a microcosm of what we can expect on a full-length.
Check out "Stan Lee's Cup" below and stay tuned for news on the release of No Bunting as well as some 2016 shows in support of the album.
