In Like a Lion
The first weekend of March -- like a lot of things these days -- is full of bluster. If you live in our area, beware of wind-borne projectiles as you head out to a show.
On Thursday night, the wind can guide you to Red Bank's Count Basie Theatre for the rescheduled show by NYC jazz band, Hot Sardines. Avery Rose & The Thorns are at House of Independents. Joe P continues his Langosta residency with support on Thursday from Chad Sabo. Renee Maskin and Brian Erickson are at Maxfield's in Boonton for an evening with Brian Rothenbeck and Zach Russack. Jersey Rock hold their final free showcase at River Rock in Brick with Wynward, Bobby Mahoney & The Seventh Son, Experiment 34, and Julian Fulton & The Zombie Gospel. Airpark, The Mercury Brothers, The Lemats, and Major Thrice are at The Saint. Shellshag play Brooklyn's Gutter Bar with Big Bliss, Ritchie White Orchestra, and Language.
Aloha Fridays return to Anchor's Bend in Asbury on, well, Friday. This installment features Black Flamingos and DJ Hi-Tide. Dentist play their last local show before heading out on tour at Bond St. Basement with Dead Coast, Pink Mexico, and Psychiatric Metaphors. The Clydes, Jigs and The Pigs, Animal Masks, and Baltimore's Underlined Passages play Brighton Bar in Long Branch. Brooklyn Bazaar has a good one with The So So Glos, High Waisted, THICK, and Unstoppable Death Machines. Sharkmuffin, Ex-Girlfriends, and Fruit and Flowers celebrate yet another tour kickoff at The Footlight in Queens with help from Hawt Mess. Rocky and The Chapter play a release show for their latest EP with NGHTCRWLRS and Cicada Radio at Porta in Jersey City. Save Ferris are at The Pony. Chris Rockwell hosts an open mic at Wonder Bar.
On Saturday, Aisle D in NB hosts Hodera, Halogens, Oso Oso, and Secret Mountain. Lowlight, Animal Masks, and Dave Murphy play Pino's in Highland Park. Jesse Elliot and The Falconaires are at Roxy & Duke's in Dunellen with Rootology, The Quahogs, and Kyle Pucciarello. Wonder Bar holds the kickoff party for this year's Cold War surf competition with The Battery Electric and Black Flamingos.
George Wirth, Pat Guadagno, Caroline Reese, Anthony Walker, and Norman Draper play acoustic at The Saint on Sunday. Scarlet Pub hosts Map Of Rome, Skytop Motel, Modern Crowds, and Fence.
