Premiere: New Video from Basic Bitches

Basic Bitches by Kate Hoos

"We All Moved to the City Now We Can't Afford to Live"

This spring, New York two-piece, Basic Bitches, released City Slackers. The album is a collection of stories and observations from the perspective of Brooklyn via London guitarist and songwriter, Naomi Scott. With some explosive assistance from drummers Josh McCartney and (current member and Overlake drummer) Nick D'Amore, Scott holds forth via 13 relentless tracks on the current state of affairs in the US ("Mass Shootings and Donald Trump") as well as life in the city, especially as it pertains to trying to make it as a band.

...and the latter is the theme of today's presentation.

Basic Bitches worked with Megan Mancini on the video for the gut-punch of an opening track to City Slackers, "We All Moved to the City Now We Can't Afford to Live."

"The video is an exploration of the trials and tribulations of being a band in a city," says Scott, "walking miles with equipment, squeezing onto public transport, rehearsing in weird warehouse buildings..." A big part of being a band in a city is playing live, and the video also features scenes from Basic Bitches' show at Berlin a few months ago.

"We All Moved to the City Now We Can't Afford to Live" is a perfect introduction to Basic Bitches for the uninitiated. If you want subtlety, look elsewhere. If you want straightforward, shout-along, sweaty rock, this might just be your thing.

City Slackers is out now and available over at Basic Bitches' Bandcamp page.
