"Fired Up" Remix from Titus Andronicus

SEVENTHSEVENINCH

Titus Andronicus just released a remixed version of one of my favorite songs from The Most Lamentable Tragedy. This version of "Fired Up" will appear on the final installment of the Titus Andronicus #SEVENSEVENINCHES series.

The remixed version removes the drums and electric guitar of the original, focusing on Owen Pallett's string arrangements and piano. I always felt that the strings on The Most Lamentable Tragedy were one of the things that took the record out of the realm of simply concept album into something rock operatic and theatrical. They gave many of the songs on the album the feel of a big production number, and "Fired Up" always felt like one of the biggest. Maybe the remixed version loses a little of its traditional rock and roll feel, but it retains all of its power.

This may end up being my last Titus Andronicus-related post for the year (Maybe not. Who knows?). In case it is, I'd just like to say thanks to Patrick and the band not only for releasing my favorite album of 2015 but also for being great supporters of this site and real nice human beings.

Check out the remixed version of "Fired Up" below and head over to titusandronicus.net to keep up with the band on everything, including their recently announced set of March tour dates with Craig Finn.

Titus Andronicus Played Shea Stadium and Released Two New Seven Inches (PHOTOS)

Two Down. Five To Go.

Titus Andronicus played a sweltering Shea Stadium in Brooklyn last night to celebrate, along with their "most elite fans," the kick-off of their new singles subscription service. Everyone at the show got a pair of 45's in a gatefold sleeve, featuring a re-mastered version of the band's original 2007 seven-inch along with a bonus disc containing material from the same 2005 sessions.

The early-ish set consisted of songs that the band have released as singles over the last seven years along with their backstories, some previews of what's to come with the new releases, and some covers ("Old Time Rock n Roll," "Brown Sugar," "Hot Pockets Theme"). It was a nice, relatively laid back evening for a Titus Andronicus show. The band members had friends and family in the audience. Even the moshers began to wilt in the heat after a while and took it pretty easy. I had on my Merge Records t-shirt; and, apparently, someone thought I was there on record company business instead of just covering the event for my worldwide media empire.

Wicked Kind -- the trio of Julian Varonesi (guitar / bass), Eric Harm (guitar / bass), and Davey Jones (drums) -- opened the evening. They'll have two songs on the next release in the singles series, a split seven-inch which is due on 8/25. Varonesi and Harm took their usual spots as the Titus Andronicus rhythm section for the main set, and Jones joined the band to play guitar on "Fatal Flaw" and drums on "The Dog."

Here are some highlights from Titus Andronicus's set. More at Flickr. Pics of Wicked Kind a little later.

Titus Andronicus Release New Single, Announce 7-inch Subscription Service, Playing Shea Stadium on 7/7/14

I'm ashamed and embarrassed that I didn't know it was a robot performing at Asbury Lanes on May 24th.

#SEVENSEVENINCHES

In a nearly two-hour online press conference yesterday, Titus Andronicus frontman Patrick Stickles explained the reasons behind his recent incarceration in a mental institution, how we all saw him "on the loose" and playing shows during this time (robot!), and how (well, not exactly "how") he ultimately escaped to regain control of Titus Andronicus, LLC.

Stickles also explained the significance and power of the number seven and announced a singles subscription service consisting of seven, new Titus Andronicus 7-inches. The new collection will increase the existing number of Titus Andronicus 7-inches from seven to fourteen. Not coincidentally, the first release in the new series will happen on 7/7/14. It's a double release that includes a re-mastered version of the first TA 7-inch, "Titus Andronicus" b/w "Fear and Loathing in Mahwah, NJ." The second disc in the package will contain "Arms Against Atrophy" b/w "Talking Oral Fixation Blues."

The first new material in the series will be a split with Wicked Kind, the new band featuring Titus Andronicus rhythm section Eric Harm and Julian Varonesi. "Stranded (On My Own)" by Titus Andronicus b/w "Sport" / "Piece of the Pie" by Wicked Kind comes out 8/25/14, seven weeks after 7/7/14, and will be followed every seven weeks thereafter by an additional split single, featuring another band, until the total number of new 7-inches has reached seven.

Titus Andronicus will celebrate the new releases with a release show at Shea Stadium on 7/7/14 with Wicked Kind. Ticket buyers get a free copy of the first release with admission to the show.

...and that's not all. Titus Andronicus also made "Stranded (On My Own)," "Piece of th Pie," and "Sport" available via Soundcloud and uploaded a new video for "Talking Oral Fixation Blues."

You can check all of this stuff out over at titusandronicus.net. You can subscribe, buy tickets, etc. at the band's online store.

I think that's it, but you can watch the press conference just to make sure I didn't miss anything.
