The Battery Electric Played Souper Groove 3 VIDEO, 9/27/14

"I'd Rather Go Blind"

The Battery Electric did a set at Souper Groove 3 out at the New Jersey Latvian Society on Rte 33 last night. The fest was a massive campsite with several stages dedicated to everything from acoustic sets to headliners and organizers Turtle Soup. It was into this weekend of tents, hula hoops, glow in the dark costumes, Hackeysacks, and all-around good vibes that The Battery Electric brought their dirty, denim-clad rock.

They slowed things down a bit for Etta James classic and set staple "I'd Rather Go Blind." Watch the video of that below.

Watch Dentist Perform "I Do It Cause I Wanna" at Asbury Park Yacht Club

Not Like a Trip to the Dentist

I had a recent trip to the dentist during which the hygienist -- you know, the person working in my mouth with really sharp things --  seemed a little, let's say, tired. I have my own theories about what could have been causing her to repeatedly nod off during our session, -- did I mention the sharp objects? -- but in the absence of any proof, I'll just say she was tired.

At any rate, that horrifying experience is behind me now. I went to see a Dentist of another sort last night at the small Asbury Park Yacht Club on Asbury's boardwalk. This time, the appointment was with the Dentist that is one of my favorite local bands. They turned in an excellent set featuring songs from their recently completed and as yet untitled debut LP.

Everyone seemed wide awake and alert, and here's video of the band performing "I Do It Cause I Wanna" to prove it.

Oh, and it's Friday, so...

Rock on.

Watch Paper Streets Cover "Dramamine"

Live Performance Video

I'm usually the geeky guy taking a whole bunch of pictures with his point and shoot at local shows. On Friday night at Asbury Lanes, I was that guy again. Laura Stevenson was headlining a solid bill that included a couple of my favorite local acts in Dentist and Paper Streets along with Philly trio Cayetana. You can check out my recap of the evening and some of my point and shoot photography over at Speak Into My Good Eye.

Following Dentist's set, someone mentioned to me that I should take some video to go with the stills. The marketing materials for my camera tout its video capabilities; so I took the tip and managed to catch Paper Streets as they performed their cover of "Dramamine" by Modest Mouse.

Watch as Paper Streets pay homage to one of their biggest influences.

Members of The Everymen Reflect on Maxwell's (VIDEO)

"Losing Our Second Home"

Mike V, Catherine Herrick, Jake Fiedler, Tom Barrett, and Joe Centeno of The Everymen took some time prior to their final set at Maxwell's to share some of their thoughts on the closing of a venue that, for several members of the New Jersey band, has felt like a second home. They shared some memories, some thoughts on what the closing of Maxwell's means for local bands like theirs, and what's coming up for The Everymen, including a trip to North Carolina's Hopscotch Festival to play with Pissed Jeans.

This is the very first video I've done for CoolDad Music; and I can't thank Mike, Catherine, Jake, Tom, and Joe enough for being so generous with their time in indulging an inexperienced videographer / interviewer on such an important night for them.

And I'm gonna go ahead and say that whatever rookie mistakes I made were really just calculated attempts to achieve a whole DIY aesthetic. Yeah, let's go with that.

After watching the video, you can check out my review of the evening.
