Little Dickman Records / CoolDad Music Holiday Benefit at The Theatre Bar at SixTen Bangs, 12/14/14 (PHOTOS)

The RocknRoll HiFives

THANK YOU!

Yesterday's Little Dickman Records / CoolDad Music holiday benefit for the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and The Mercy Center of Asbury Park was nothing short of a rousing success. Together, you all raised over $1100 for the organizations, and we collected so many cans and boxes of food that it took four of us three trips each to carry it all out of the venue. It's truly amazing that, during a time of year when everyone feels a little squeezed and there are so many demands on everyone's time, you all turned out on a Sunday to support two worthy causes.

Thanks probably aren't enough, but here goes.

Thanks to all of the bands who donated their time and played amazing sets for everyone:

The RocknRoll HiFives
Chris Brown
Black Flamingos
Overlake
Luke Henderiks and Alex Ball of Teenage Halloween
The Battery Electric
Mike V of The Everymen
Dentist
Doug Zambon
Hot Blood
TV Tramps
The Off White

Everyone was truly fantastic. Check out their music and buy some of it. Some of the moments that really stick out for me:

  • RocknRoll HiFives frontgirl, Eilee Centeno running through the crowd with her tambourine or sharing the mic with her dad, Joe.
  • The juxtaposition by Chris Brown of following "Oh Holy Night" with The Misfits' "Skulls."
  • Black Flamingos just flat out blowing minds. Oh, and "Jingle Bell Rock."
  • Overlake making a rare Asbury Park appearance and winning new fans with an explosion of sonic beauty.
  • Luke Henderiks powering through and impressing everyone even with a voice that was spent after a full weekend of shows.
  • The Battery Electric. That is all.
  • Mike V's cover of Tom Waits's "Jersey Girl" and his joint performance with Brent from The Battery Electric.
  • Watching CoolDaughter #1 and her friend Maggie rock out to Dentist who they'd been waiting all day to see.
  • The surprise performance by Doug Zambon whose cover of "Kiss The Bottle" is one of my favorite covers, hands down.
  • Getting doused with beer by Doug Zambon during Hot Blood's "Don't Be a Dick" or getting knocked out of the crowd like a 9-ball as I was trying to take pictures.
  • Starting to fade, but then getting a second wind from the raw power of Joy Vay and TV Tramps.
  • Watching The Off White absolutely bring it for the final set of the night, sending everyone off with some dirty, gritty rock and roll.

Thanks to all of the businesses that donated items to the auction:

Chunksaah Records
Word of Mouth Studios
ACDWSH
Holdfast Asbury Park
Brickwall Tavern
Augmented Asbury Park
Gentleman Jim Norton
Big Slick Pomade Company

Thanks to The Theatre Bar at SixTen Bangs for letting us host this wonderful event there.

Thanks to Charlie Schafer for doing sound all day and for providing all the necessary equipment and the backline.

Special thanks to Alex Ball who stage-managed the whole show for us just because he wanted to and kept things running smoothly.

Thanks to my partners in crime over at Little Dickman Records.

Thanks to anyone I may have forgotten. Please know that your contribution is greatly appreciated and feel free to call me out.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who came out and made the day such a success. It's kind of a thing with me that, in a country and a state like ours, so many people just a town, a block, or even a street away face the prospect of going to bed hungry each night. I can't stand it. So thank you for all of the support you showed for organizations doing such good work.

Here are some pictures. I'm putting the rest up at Flickr in one, giant gallery.
