In With The New Edition

NOT Neutral Milk Hotel Friday

I practiced a bit of restraint today. 12 noon came and went, and I didn't even try to get tickets to any of Neutral Milk Hotel's NYC shows coming early next year. This was a big step for me. In the Aeroplane over the Sea could be my favorite album of all time. It's in the top 5, anyway.

But after seeing (actually extremely good) shows by Morrissey, Johnny Marr, and Evan Dando, taking so many trips up to Maxwell's, booking my trip to FYF to see My Bloody Valentine, I started to worry that I was getting a bit mired in the past.

I'm, therefore, going to make a concerted effort to try some new stuff. Sure, I'll grab the new Sebadoh record when it comes out. I'll give a listen to whatever new music The Pixies produce. But there's some new band playing almost right in my backyard every night of the week, and there are plenty of bands putting out great records that I'll never hear unless I make an effort.

So email, tweet, message, or comment at me with whatever new thing is moving you right now. I'll give it a listen.

Here's something from the first recommendation I've gotten so far.

Rock on.
