...And I Was There
Back in February, I was one of only about a dozen people present when A.V. Club taped a Sharon Van Etten performance at The Stone Pony as part of their new "Pioneering" video series. The series places current artists in iconic locations and has them perform a cover song by a musical "pioneer."
Nutley, NJ native Sharon Van Etten took to The Stone Pony stage to give us her rendition of Bruce Springsteen's "Drive All Night." I am an unapologetic Springsteen fanatic, and Sharon Van Etten's Tramp is a haunting and emotional mini masterpiece. Her selection couldn't have been more appropriate, and I'm just gonna come right out and say that her performance brought a tear to my eye. It was a stressful day at work. And that song, her voice, in Asbury Park... ...What can I say?
That performance, along with an interview that gets in some very nice shots of some of our favorite Asbury Park landmarks, went up at A.V. Club today and got me choked up all over again.
