Show Preview: Onward, Etc. w/ Colton Kayser, Blisstique at The Saint Tonight

via onwardetc.com

Wednesday, Wednesday, Wednesday...

I started doing weekend show listings at the beginning of the year. I began by listing what's coming up local(ish)ly on Fridays, Saturdays, and the occasional Sunday and recently expanded it to include Thursday nights. Piling that onto the coffee-acquiring, breakfast-making, kids-driving, dog-walking responsibilities of my team of interns (I have no interns.) has proved taxing on the poor kids, so I really have no hope of posting daily listings BrooklynVegan-style.

Despite promising to let you know about interesting, non-weekend shows on a case by case basis, I neglected to mention the packed Wednesday night last week that included visits from post-hardcore icons Slint and 80s new wavers Berlin. I'll try not to let it happen again. So I'm here to mention a show tonight that I'd probably be going to if CoolMom weren't in Europe attending business meetings and buying me new bottles of duty-free whiskey.

South Dakota's Onward, Etc. are touring in support of their sophomore release Sonder On and will be making a stop tonight at The Saint. Sonder On is a collection of raucous, emotional, pub-worthy, acoustic-Americana-punk that I would imagine translates wonderfully to a live setting, especially if the place is packed. Rosco Wuestewald started the project, which now includes KC Olsen on violin and Tom Pearson on drums, and managed to secure cameos on the record from former members of Flogging Molly, Social Distortion, and Lucero.

Supporting Onward, Etc. tonight will be a pair of locals -- singer/songwriter Colton Kayser, who released an excellent self-titled debut earlier this year, and Blisstique, who blend rock and electronica into an interesting mix that intentionally defies classification. So make sure you arrive early.

Onward, Etc. play The Saint tonight with Colton Kayser and Blisstique. Doors open at 7:30, and it's 10 bucks.

You should go. Tell me all about it.
