Monday holidays are great. They're great not only because you get that extra weekend day to relax, but also because they shorten the following work week by a full 20%. That's 50% more weekend and 20% less soul-crushing, corporate drudgery for me. Win-win.
Following the big Memorial Day blowout, it seems like this weekend came up on us quickly. Things get started tonight with Asbury Park Yacht Club's free show from Sound Waves, featuring our BFFs Dentist along with Little Big Toe and Jeff JCK.
On Friday, Asbury Lanes features a pop punk extravaganza with Hit The Lights, Major League, Light Years, Brigades, and July. Bog Iron Bloom play for free at Langosta, and a couple of locals take it to Brooklyn when The Battery Electric and Plato Zorba play Spike Hill.
Asbury Lanes has the Full of Fancy / Besties double reunion show on Saturday. That show also features Mikey Erg and Brick Mower. Failure bring their reunion tour to The Stone Pony. Up in Montclair, Tierney's Tavern celebrates 80 years with a huge, free music festival featuring Accidental Seabirds, The Porchistas, Thomas Wesley Stern, Bern and The Brights, and more on three separate stages.
Another all-day option on Saturday is River Concert 2014 to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy in Shark River Hills. It takes place at Shark River Hills Marina. Scheduled performers include Nicole Atkins, Glycerine Queens, Bell Bottom Blues, and Highway 41. Nicole Atkins promised at her Langosta set last week that there would be plenty of music and, of course, sausage sandwiches.
