I'll be commuting back and forth to the indie music mecca of Williamsburg / Greenpoint this weekend as I bring you coverage of 2014's Northside Festival. That means I'll be missing some great things locally, but you don't have to.
Tonight, Sound Waves brings four bands for free to Asbury Park Yacht Club with Chloe Demos, The Places You've Been, Ohio's Diana Chittester, and Moon Motel. Sleigh Bells (featuring Monmouth County product, Manasquan's Alexis Krauss) bring the noise to The Stone Pony, and Hot Blood play the first of two weekend shows here as they help send Middletown's Back and Forth out on tour at the Wonder Loft.
On Friday, Marco Benevento plays the first of two nights at The Saint. The Stone Pony Summer Stage kicks off its season with Rebelution and Iration. Freakin' Air Supply is at The Basie.
On Saturday, Asbury Lanes hosts ska greats Mephiskapheles who get support from Hub City Stompers and Hot Blood. Marco Benevento is back at The Saint, and The Stone Pony Summer Stage has Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Father's Day brings another great "Sunday Service" to the Lanes as Pity Sex and Nothing co-headline a night of shoegaze. Filling out that bill are Crying and Teen Suicide. I'll steal Gentlemen Jim Norton's joke here and point out that a poster listing the show as "Crying, Pity Sex, Teen Suicide, and then... ...Nothing" needs to get made. Depending on what's happening in Brooklyn, I may just have to come back down for this one.
