Smalltalk Release Second EP Just in Time for Their Friday Show at Asbury Lanes

Smalltalk played New Brunswick's Court Tavern in June.

Smalltalk II

Back in June, when I interviewed Smalltalk's Zak Kaplan and Jamie Goldfarb, the pair said that they planned on releasing a couple more three-song EPs before, perhaps, compiling their output into a full-length. Today, Smalltalk -- a five-piece that also includes John Chladniček, Tara Jones, and The Bouncing Souls' Pete Steinkopf -- released the follow-up to April's self-titled debut.

As promised, II is three songs. Opener "The Last Ones" features some wholly satisfying guitar squall mixed in with some quieter moments enhanced by the calming influence of Jones on vocals. "Holding Out" brings in some Johnny Marr-style jangle; while epic seven-minute closer, "People Only Die of Love in the Movies," contains all the melodrama you'd expect given the title.

Just like Smalltalk's last release, II is available as a limited-edition vinyl from the band's Bandcamp page. You can also stream and download the EP there.

You can catch the band in person when they play Asbury Lanes this Friday, July 18th, along with Plow United, Ma Jolie, Great Apes, and Dead Precedents. Hopefully, they'll bring a few records with them.

Pete Steinkopf's other band, The Bouncing Souls, play their "Home for the Summer" 25th anniversary show at The Stone Pony Summer Stage on Saturday.
