Shufflin' Off To Buffalo

I got to meet Bob Mould last year. After Bob's show at Bowery Ballroom, Gentleman Jim and I got to spend some time with him and his band. It never felt right to ask for a picture. So, now, because I was too cool, I don't have a shot with one of my idols. On Sunday, The Baseball Project come to Asbury Lanes. It's my goal to come away from that show with a picture of Mike Mills, Peter Buck, and me. I'm just hoping we make it back from our trip to Buffalo on time.

That's right. We're shuffling off to Buffalo for a family event bright and early tomorrow morning. That means I'll be missing much of this weekend's full slate of shows. You can still go, though. And there is plenty to do.

On Thursday, Supersuckers come back to Asbury Park for a show at the Lanes with Life Eaters and our good buds The Battery Electric. 90.5 The Night has their free songwriters show in Belmar featuring Scars on 45, Harper's Fellow, and Broken Anchor.

Friday is a big night as The Summer Nationals Tour featuring The Offspring, Bad Religion, Pennywise, and The Vandals hits The Stone Pony Summer Stage. Afterwards, you can head to the after party at Asbury Lanes and bowl to the sounds of DJ Jack the Ripper or go across the street for EdTang & The Chops and Chris Brown at Langosta Lounge. The Ribeye Brothers are at The Yacht Club.

Friday's other big show features Dentist, Prehistoric Forest, Hey Anna, Coastgaard, and Paper Streets at The Saint. I previewed that one yesterday, and it should be great.

On Saturday, The Clydes do an all-ages matinee show at The Brighton. The evening brings the re-scheduled Southside Johnny show to the Summer Stage. Hub City Stompers are at The Court Tavern in New Brunswick.

The Baseball Project, featuring R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Mike Mills, Scott McCaughey, Steve Wynn, and Linda Pitmon, play two sets at Asbury Lanes on Sunday. A double header, I guess. Lakehouse Music Academy continues free, acoustic punk Sunday afternoons with Corrina, Corrina, Brick Mower, and Grave's End. Another free option is Deal Casino at The Saint with Philly's Underwater Country Club, The Box Tiger, and Paper Streets. Slightly Stoopid headline the weekend's third Summer Stage show.

Enjoy yourselves while I'm driving and then loading up on fish fry and wings. Maybe I'll see you Sunday. If not, watch this space for that picture.
