What's Going On: 12/4, 12/5, 12/6, & 12/7, 2014

Shows from Big Ups, The Feelies, and Lagwagon this weekend.
Beginning Of The End

The first full weekend of the last month of shows for 2014. This was one of those weeks when CoolMom was out of town. That meant a couple of extra swim carpool legs for me, and I missed a few shows that I would have otherwise attended. The cooldaughters and I had a good time staying home, and I should get some nice duty-free whiskey when CoolMom's back.

Holiday activities are starting to ramp up as CoolDaughter #1's school chorus has performances at the Monmouth Mall's Barnes & Noble store on Friday evening and at our town tree lighting ceremony on Sunday. We're also only about 10 days away from the Little Dickman Records / CoolDad Music holiday benefit on December 14th at The Theatre Bar at 610 Bangs, and preparations for that continue.

Enough intro.

On Thursday night, Pat DiNizio of The Smithereens is at it again for free over at Langosta. Teenage Halloween are at The Brighton with Those Corn People and Shaking Trees. Brooklyn's Big Ups (who put out an excellent record in 2014) play Lot 13 in Bayonne with Life Eaters and Washer. Semiotics, Great Estates, Groundskeeper, and Tour de Force are at The Court Tavern in New Brunswick. Jimkata are at The Saint.

Friday's big show brings New Jersey legends The Feelies to Asbury Lanes for a performance that's sure to include a few encores and some deep cut covers. The Empty Hearts, a band featuring members of The Romantics, The Cars, The Chesterfield Kings, and Blondie play The Saint. The Clef brings Have A Good Season, Bearchild, Secret Mountain, and Slip Silver to Village Coffee. I'll be making the hike into Brooklyn for new CDM obsession Single Mothers at Baby's All Right.

Asbury Park Yacht Club has Sikamoor Rooney Brad York and gods for free on Saturday night. Hub City Stompers headline Court Tavern with The Beatdown, Damn Broads, and The Inconsistent. Lost Romance are at Crossroads in Garwood. California punks Lagwagon are at The Stone Pony with Swingin Utters and This Legend.

Sunday brings The Karma Killers and Paper Jets to The Saint.

Compared to some weekends, this one definitely feels like quality over quantity of shows; and there are definitely some gems. I'm sure you'll find something to occupy your time in between holiday shopping and sending out those cards.
