Country outlaws Lowlight have a busy weekend starting Thursday at The Saint. |
Dance Around the Maypole
Whether you secretly leave baskets full of flowers on your neighbors' doorsteps, or dance around the maypole, or march down the street singing "The Internationale," it's almost May Day; and you should celebrate. Maybe you should take in a local show or two.
Cat London comes to Asbury Park Yacht Club for a free show on Thursday. Matt Romagna, Joshua Mark, Jeff Luke, and our good buddy Chris Brown are at Court Tavern. Owel play David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center for free. The Saint hosts The Black Sox Scandal, The Paper Jets, The Vaughns, The Afraid Brigade, and Lowlight.
On Friday night, Bone & Marrow (formerly of Elevator Art) release their CD at Asbury Lanes. Helping them out will be Dr. Raga, IS., Homeless Apians, and The Porchistas. Also LED hooping. Spandau Ballet are at Count Basie. It's true. Quincy Mumford and The Reason Why play Langosta for free. Sharkmuffin are at Lot 13 in Bayonne with Darkwing, Garbage Brain, and Sistine. Paradise: Lost in NB hosts Hodera, Teenage Halloween, The Blithedale Romance, and more. Action Bronson hits Starland. Dark City Entertainment holds a fundraiser for Mary's Place By The Sea, which helps women dealing with cancer. That bill features goodnightmorning, Lo Kloza, Emily Grove, and more.
On Saturday, Deal's AK-47 (ask a host) has Grand Mariner, Teenage Halloween, Good Luck Spaceman, Debt League, and The Chambrays. Asbury's Collective Art Tank opens its exhibition of "Humans of Asbury Park." Head over there to see if you're on the wall. Sniffling Indie Kids' Frank DeFranco celebrates his birthday at Court Tavern with They Had Faces Then, Modern Chemistry, Lake Effect, and his band NGHTCRWLRS. The Vaughns are at The PussyPad with The Antics, Speed Trials, and Crime Alert. Little Rose, Cold Weather Company, Rose Boulevard, and The Paper Jets play the Union County Arts Center's Hamilton Stage in Rahway. That's followed by an after-party at The Railhouse featuring Lowlight and Cook Thugless. Lower The Veil release their new video at The Saint with Vextion and Decypher. The legendary Walter Schreifels (Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, Rival Schools) brings his garage rock supergroup, Dead Heavens, to Wonder Bar for a low-dough $6 show.
The Meatmen are at The Brighton on Sunday. Ewan Dobson and Mike Brody play an "acoustic cafe" show at The Saint.
If you see me limping around somewhere (I'll tell you about it later), come say hi.
