Overlake Preview Two New Tracks

"Travelogue" / "Winter Is Why"

Jersey City's Overlake made one of my favorite albums of 2014 with Sighs. Since then, I've seen the trio play live several times. Each time, they carry me off on a wave of shoegaze noise. Lately, the band have introduced a couple of new songs into their sets.

Both "Travelogue" and "Winter Is Why" continue the band's swirling and swooping noise. Each track, though, features that great combination of pop and shoegaze that make for the best songs in this genre. The bass and guitar riffs that run through "Travelogue" worm themselves into your brain, while the guitar that opens "Winter Is Why" provides a recognizable hook in the same way that the opening notes of My Bloody Valentine's "When You Sleep" made that track an instant classic.

Overlake will be releasing both tracks as a 7" with Killing Horse Records in September, but they're giving us all a preview this weekend. You can stream "Travelogue" and "Winter Is Why" via Overlake's Soundcloud through noon on Monday.
