Screaming Females Cover Taylor Swift

"Shake It Off"

This is one of those things that Stereogum, Paste, Pitchfork, and every other indie music-related blog in the blogosphere will be sharing with you today. I try to avoid sharing that stuff mostly, but I often make an exception for Screaming Females. Once again, I am making an exception for Screaming Females.

Being the father of two pre-teen girls, I've had to work a couple of Taylor Swift covers into my very limited repertoire. "We Are Never Getting Back Together" and "Blank Space" get kind of downer, strummy treatments from me. Remind me never to play either one for you.

In that SPIN cover story on the band, Marissa Paternoster mentioned that George Michael's "Freedom '90" was one of her favorite songs. That and her songwriting, especially on Rose Mountain, make it clear that she and the band have got an ear for great pop. Screaming Females do a great job here for A.V. Undercover. Marissa even takes some of the cringeworthiness out of the "Hey, hey, hey..." part with her deadpan delivery.

Head over to A.V. Undercover to check this one or watch it below.
