Back at the Carousel

The summer continues to fly by. It's another weekend packed with shows, and we're back at the carousel in Asbury Park this Sunday for another evening of free rock. There's plenty to do before we get there, though.

On Thursday night, 90.5 The Night continues their Songwriters on the Beach series by bringing Cheerleader and Isadora to 5th Ave. Beach in Belmar for a free show. Chunksaah Records kicks off a big weekend for themselves with a dual record release at Asbury Lanes. Seaside Caves celebrate the physical release of their self-titled EP with the label at that party. Roger Harvey, who appears on the All Of My Friends Are Total Dreamboats comp, also plays. Stuyvesant play DC's Tavern in Hoboken with Tim Foljahn. A bunch of NJ bands head to Left Field NYC as Weird and Wonderful Words, Colton Kaser, Help Me Help You, and Jean Pool play there. In Ridgewood, Pinegrove, Oshwa, Half Waif, Forth Wanderers, and ROMP play the Elks Lodge.

Anthony Raneri is back at Asbury Lanes on Friday night. Tony Appleseed, Little Big Toe, and Color Wheel play APYC for free. Toy Cars, Blithedale Romance, Knights Templar, and Horsecops are at Glitterbox. Hot Blood and The Battery Electric head up to Left Field for a Turbojugend party. Todd Barry brings his stand-up act to The Saint. Umphrey's McGee hit the Summer Stage. Dark City brings Matt Wade, Mad Feather Group, The Shady Street Show Band, and Feathers In The Shade to Wonder Bar.

Also on Friday, The Bouncing Souls hit the stage at Starland to play How I Spent My Summer Vacation in its entirety. Joining them on a packed out bill are Andrew Jackson Jihad, labelmates Seaside Caves, and our beloved Screaming Females.

On Saturday, Accidental Seabirds head to Montclair for a show at The Porchistas' home studio with Able Thought and The Porchistas. The Battery Electric continue their busy weekend with a show at Arlene's Grocery in NYC. Planes Mistaken For Stars are at Asbury Lanes. The Brighton has The Love Me Nots, The X-Men, Soraia, and The Off White. GayGuy / StraightGuy and Yawn Mower join forces for a free show at APYC where they'll be doing the songs of Weezer and Nirvana. Play Date, the husband and wife duo of Greg Attonito (The Bouncing Souls) and Shanti Wintergate, celebrate the release of their latest collection of family music at Porta. Bobby Mahoney and The Seventh Son hold their own release show at The Saint with Atlas Bloom, Ashes To Rain, and Julian Fulton. 311 are on the Summer Stage.

We're back at the carousel in Asbury Park this Sunday with our friends Little Dickman Records and Arcade Radio. Our last show there was really special, and this one promises to be great as well. Wreaths are joined by new Little Dickman signees Sharkmuffin as well as Brooklyn's Lost Boy ? doing a solo set. It's free again and all ages. Things get started at 6.

This Sunday has plenty of other options as well. Thomas Wynn & The Believers are at Asbury Lanes. The Brighton hosts a benefit for St. Jude's Children's Hospital featuring Hot Blood, the tireless Battery Electric, Dead Overhead, Shiksa, Odds Are, and Art of Edgar. The Warped Tour comes to PNC Bank Arts Center. Accidental Seabirds are in Brooklyn at Pete's Candy Store. Deal Casino roll on at APYC.
