What's Going On: 7/23, 7/24, 7/25 & 7/26

Glen Rock's Titus Andronicus celebrate The Most Lamentable Tragedy with a 5-day residency at Brooklyn's Shea Stadium

Tough Choices

Big, busy weekend here at CoolDad Music HQ. CD#1 heads to the NJ Junior Olympic Swimming Championships at Rutgers to compete in all her breaststroke events. Plus, there are a ton of shows all competing with one another for our attention.

Things get started on Thursday when 90.5 The Night returns to the beach in Belmar with James Maddock and Jonathan Tea. Reggie and The Full Effect are back at Asbury Lanes with Pentimento and The Weaks. Alternate Routes, Emily Grove, and our friend Chris Brown are at Wonder Bar.

On Friday night, APYC hosts Yams playing The Minutemen's Double Nickels on the Dime. Karmic Juggernaut are at Langosta. The Visionary Tattoo and Arts Festival starts at Convention Hall. Devi, Deaf Rhino, Big Wake, and Drum and Tantrum play The Dopeness in JC. In nearby Hoboken, Arrows In Her, Morningside Lane, Atlas Bloom, and Forever Losing Sleep hit Maxwell's Tavern. Dave Hill brings his stand-up act to The Paramount for a free upstairs show. The Saint has a lunchtime show with Planes on Paper and an evening show with Centennials, The Vaughns, All New Atmosphere, The Color Atlantic, and Wolfasaurus REX.

Also on Friday, Glen Rock, NJ punks Titus Andronicus begin their residency at Brooklyn's Shea Stadium to celebrate the release of their 29-song punk opera, The Most Lamentable Tragedy. Primus come to the Stone Pony Summer Stage and bring with them all-time CoolDad fave, Dinosaur Jr. Sean Lennon's Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger also play.

On Saturday, Beach Slang come back to Asbury Lanes with Hurrry and The Scandals. Read my interview with Beach Slang's James Alex here. The late show at the Lanes features all-metal Bee Gees tribute band, Tragedy. Ruby The Hatchet play for free at APYC. Marshall Crenshaw does an intimate performance at The Paramount. Little Dickman artists Corrina, Corrina and The Battery Electric head to New Brunswick's PussyPad. Titus continue at Shea. Cowboy Mouth are at the Pony.

For some Saturday daytime action, you can head to Bayville for the Soulsational Music and Wellness Festival featuring Glycerine Queens, Prehistoric Forest, Bone and Marrow, Chris Rockwell, and more. Brooklyn buzz band Sunflower Bean play a Saturday matinee at The Saint with CDM faves Sink Tapes.

On Sunday, Plow United are at Asbury Lanes. Deal Casino roll on at APYC. Titus play Night Three at Shea. Rise Against, Killswitch Engage, and Let Live are on the Summer Stage.

So many of my favorites playing this weekend. It's going to be tough for me to decide where to spend the evenings. Good problems to have, I guess. I'm sure I'll see you somewhere.
