Staycation, All I Ever Wanted

Smack dab in the middle of my two-week staycation and posting has been a little lighter than I would have liked. I'm going to try and change that in the coming days with some album reviews and reviews / pics of some of the shows coming up this weekend.

Things get started on Thursday as 90.5 The Night continue their free Songwriters on the Beach series with Lost Leaders and Cranston Dean in Belmar. Yellowman is at The Saint with Barry and The Penetrators and Eastbourne. dollys are at New Brunswick's St. Mew's for a show with King Kong and The Bleeding Hearts, Specimen 47, Jaguardini, and Laser Background. Donovan Frankenreiter hits The Stone Pony. Black Irish Texas, Jon Caspi & The First Gun, and Pig Iron Profit are at Brighton Bar. You can also watch all-time classic movie Better Off Dead, starring John Cusack, on the beach in Asbury Park.

Also on Thursday, Asbury Lanes hosts a stacked bill topped by Philadelphia's Cayetana, whose Nervous Like Me was one of my favorite albums of 2014. That show also features Chumped, Worriers, Thin Lips, and our friends in ROMP. The Asbury Park Feminist Collective will be on hand with another 'zine. This one features vegan recipes.

On Friday night, Toy Cars celebrate the release of Letters at New Brunswick's Banana Stand with Subtitles, Joe and The Matchmakers, and acoustic performances from Wisteria, Ken DePoto, and Better Days. We're Ghosts Now are at Brighton Bar with Myrtle Strange, From Bears, and The Chambrays. Rahway's Rail House has The Hostage Crisis, The Vaughns, I Am Human, and Little Rose. Little Rooney and The Fifth Down co-headline Red Bank Rehearsal. Long Faces, Goodbye Tiger, Rocky Catanese and The Chapter, Charlie Sztyk, and Yawn Mower are at The Saint.

Fat Wreck Chords host "Fat Wrecked for 25 Years" on the Summer Stage with NOFX, Lagwagon, Strung Out, Swingin' Utters, and more starting on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, Wreaths and gods play a free show on the beach at Anchor's Bend. Perennial Reel and Cachabacha hold a tour homecoming party at The Dopeness in Jersey City with dollys and Fiscal Cliff. The Amboys and Rose Boulevard play for free at Langosta. Title Fight are at Starland with Basement. Brick + Mortar and Deal Casino play The Studio at Webster Hall. Dramarama are at Wonder Bar.

Sunday brings Deal Casino back home to APYC for their ongoing free residency. The Remnants and Hooka Hey have the evening show at The Saint. The Avett Brothers hit the Summer Stage with help from Nicole Atkins.

If you're into some musical theater-type stuff, you can come by CBA on Friday / Saturday evening or Saturday / Sunday afternoon to check out Seashore Players' production of The Little Mermaid. CoolDaughter #1 is a maid, a sea creature, and a sailor. She even has a line or two this time around.
