Beginning of a Great Adventure
What's going on? What's going on, you ask? Tomorrow is CoolMom's last day at her current job, and then she's off for a month before she starts the new one. I've got two weeks of vacation coming up, so that means two weeks of riding our bikes to the beach, enjoying beverages by the pool, and going to shows together. Expect to see lots of her on what will be the best staycation ever.
I'll be with her for her going away party on Thursday night, but there's plenty for you to do around here. WBJB continues their Songwriters on the Beach series in Belmar with Caitlin Canty and Paul Rosevear. The Pests are at The Brighton. Mark Diomede and Juggling Suns come to The Saint.
CoolMom's little sister comes to town with her family on Friday, and I plan on dragging them all out with me. The Gay Blades, GayGuy / StraightGuy and Honah Lee hit Asbury Lanes. Aviv in Brooklyn hosts Jersey City's Vomitface along with Haybaby and more. Rocky Catanese and The Chapter hold their CD release at Jersey City's Dopeness with Jared Hart, Underlined Passages, and Vows. Sharkmuffin are at Shea Stadium in Brooklyn celebrating the release of Chartreuse with Charly Bliss, Lost Boy ?, BOYTOY, and Fruit & Flowers. The cooldaughters will be happy to hear that Andy Grammer and American Authors are at Starland. Needtobreathe and Switchfoot play the Summer Stage.
Also on Friday, two bands I've heard good things about play Asbury Park Yacht Club for free. The Battery Electric and Dentist join forces to take over that space.
On Saturday night, Sharkmuffin play the Jersey half of their record release at APYC with The Von Mons and Lost Boy ?. Hot Blood head to Trenton for a show in the Millhill Basement. Long Beard plays St. Mew's in Bruns with Laundry League, Korine, and Specimen 47. Conover, Teenage Halloween, Archie Alone, Sunflower, and Spowder play Montclair's Meatlocker. Dick Dale returns to Wonder Bar. This time he brings Coffin Daggers and our buds The Black Flamingos.
Sunday brings two shows to Asbury Lanes. On Your Marks play a Sunday matinee. Chemtrail are covering the evening with help from Pyg Rypper (GayGuy / StraightGuy and Yawn Mower doing Weezer). Deal Casino continue their free residency at APYC. They're bringing dollys along for the ride. Up in Newark, Killkenny's hosts a few of our friends in Overlake, Sharkmuffin, Lost Boy ?, and Darkwing. moe. hit the Summer Stage, and Van Halen come to Holmdel's PNC Bank Arts Center.
