Play Through the Pain
Tough week here at CDMHQ. I've been nursing a nagging back injury (still unexplained) as I try to gear up for a pretty busy weekend. Gonna try and pull (at least) double duty tonight, so if you see someone writhing on the sidewalk in Asbury, it's probably me.
Northern Faces are back at Asbury Lanes on a busy Thursday night with Brave Baby, Only Living Boy, and Roy Orbitron. The Brighton hosts The Vaughns, The Bunks, and Flammable Animals. The reopened Court Tavern has Morningside Lane, Sad Lips, People Of The Holly, Bobby Mahoney and The Seventh Son, and Man Dancing. Thurston Moore and his band play Monty Hall in Jersey City. Helmet will play Betty in its entirety at The Stone Pony. And Wonder Bar hosts another edition of Asbury Acoustic featuring Parlor Mob's Mark Melicia, Deal Casino, Lost In Society's Zach Moyle, Chris Brown, Renee Maskin, and more.
Things don't slow down at all on Friday as YJY are at AK-47 in Deal with Debt League, Ehiorobo, Reflowered Girlz, and Krissanthemum. Asbury Lanes is open for some hang time. Ba Babes and Von Mons play APYC for free. Pop Will Eat Itself are at The Brighton with End Of An Era, Acid, and Grey Goes Black. A Deer A Horse and Howth do their thing at St. Mew's in Bruns with Prim and Thee Creeps. Dweezil Zappa plays Frank Zappa at The Stone Pony.
On Saturday night, Asbury Lanes hosts a Shadow of the City after-party featuring Teenage Halloween and The Great Depression. The Feelies play a sold out Monty Hall for their first-ever show in Jersey City. Glen Burtnik gets married, plays a show, and raises money for the National MS Society at The Paramount. The Shadow of the City Festival takes place on the Stone Pony Summer Stage and features Bleachers, Charli XCX, The Front Bottoms, Cults, How To Dress Well, Bully, and more.
Also on Saturday, our good friends Hot Blood and The Shady Street Show Band join forces to celebrate their split Shady Blood release where they cover each other's songs. Joining them on that bill are Bone & Marrow and Lowlight.
Sunday brings another installment of the Asbury Lanes Garage Sale and Record Swap early, while Teenage Bottlerocket headline the venue in the evening. Lot 13 in Bayonne has Secretary Legs, Shark Jumper, Flying Faders, and Finchler. The Anchor's Bend hosts and electronic / experimental / avant garde show featuring DJs, electronic acts, and Asbury's own Volt Direction.
It's ibuprofen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner here; and I hope to see you somewhere. I just may be moving a little slowly.
