"Stock"

Here's something to get you out of your snow day stupor, for a minute or so anyway. Hightstown hardcore / powerviolence quartet, SICK SHIT, are premiering the video for single "Stock" on this snowy evening.

A band for the last couple of years, SICK SHIT added vocalist Sam Kaiser to the trio of Bobko (guitar), Keith Nowacki (bass), and Zach Miller (drums) just before heading into the studio to record their 17-song debut SOFTCORE. The result is something heavily rooted in 80s hardcore. "Stock" also had me thinking of some 21st century bands like early Ceremony or Perfect Pussy as well.

Ricardo Lorenzo shot the video for "Stock" on VHS in a Hightstown basement, and that gives things an appropriately retro feel. Even with the DIY vibe, though, it's the details -- the double exposures, the line-drawn animations, Kaiser's sheepish grin in the final seconds -- that show we're dealing with a skilled filmmaker here.

SICK SHIT will be releasing SOFTCORE on cassette and digital download on February 27th. They'll be celebrating with a release show at New Brunswick's Clinic that same night with help from Sikes and Dusters.

Check out the video for "Stock" below. Make sure you keep your eye on SICK SHIT's Bandcamp page for the release of SOFTCORE.
