What's Going On: 2/11, 2/12, 2/13 & 2/14, 2016

Screaming Females play two sold-out shows in Jersey City this weekend.

Mazel Tov, CoolDaughter Number 1!

After years of preparation and study, CoolDaughter 1's big day arrives on Saturday when she's a Bat Mitzvah. I'm not religious at all, but I'm extremely proud of the level of work and dedication she's shown in getting to this point. She's been studying since about the age of 9, and many mornings I'd wake up to hear her already practicing in her room. As part of the process, she chose to hold a swim-a-thon to raise money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She took a genuine interest in the issue beyond her mitzvah project, even doing a school project on it, showing what a thoughtful, compassionate young woman she really is. Anyway... ...I'm gushing. Sue me. She's awesome.

Shows...

The (Mike Love) Beach Boys come to Red Bank's Count Basie on Thursday night. Also in Red Bank, Midnight Mosaic play the free Funk & Soul Thursday at The Downtown. Future Generations, Far In The Maples, and Daniel James & The Loveless are at The Saint. VOIVOD hit The Stone Pony. gods are at Brooklyn's Shea Stadium with Field Trip and Iris Lune.

Friday night brings Von Mons and Mad Doctors to APYC for a free show. Jersey Rock and Yuengling hold the second of their Winter Beach Crawl free shows at Brighton Bar. This one's got Semiotics, Twin Coves, Lowlight, and Modern Chemistry continuing their New Jersey World Tour. Gedeon Luke and The People are at House of Independents. Paper Streets head to New Brunswick's Paradise: Lost with Ghost Camp, Sad Lips, and The North American. Montclair's Meatlocker has Archie Alone, Devon Goods, Ladder Match, Our Wits That Make Us Men, and Self Obscure. Screaming Females play the first of two sold out shows at Jersey City's Monty Hall.

Semiotics stick around the area for a show at AK-47 in Deal with Toy Cars, Reflowered Girlz, Con Leche, and Fortune Yeller on Saturday. Black Flamingos hit APYC with Crash Gordon and Debra Dynamite. The New Jersey World Tour rolls on as Modern Chemistry visit Paradise: Lost with Milkmen, Eagle Daddy, and The Vaughns. No Pasaran!, Cicada Radio, and TV Sound play Porta JC. It's another installment of Asbury Unplugged at Wonder Bar.

Also on Saturday, Bounders celebrate the release of Narrows at The Saint with Stained Glass, Deaf Rhino, and Denizens Of Soil. Screaming Females pack out Monty Hall for a second night.

On Sunday, you can do brunch with your sweetheart at Langosta Lounge and Miguel Rodriges Trio. New Brunswick's Court Tavern has Relms, Map Of Rome, and Jeanette Ferri. Sandy Mack's Wonder Jam returns to Wonder Bar.

It's a big weekend. Enjoy time with your sweetie. Maybe you've even got Monday off. I'm just going to spend lots of time wondering how I ended up with such a cool cooldaughter.

Peace. Shalom.
