It's the weekend that best exemplifies 21st century American culture, the weekend when people debate over which corporate behemoth did the best job of trying to sell them stuff, the weekend when people have serious and earnest conversations about making Monday a national holiday because... ...football. But before you settle in to see what cute / sad / emotional / hilarious thing the Budweiser Clydesdales are gonna do this year, there are quite a few shows.

On Thursday night, Eastbourne, Dub Proof, Blisstique, and The Rich Music Ensemble play a benefit for pancreatic cancer research at Brighton Bar. Court Tavern has The FLOW Show, Mongooch, P-Funk North, and The Hostage Crisis. Funk and Soul Thursdays continue at Red Bank's Downtown with Pepperwine. Fetty Wap plays a sold out show at Montclair's Wellmont Theater. The Meatlocker is putting on an "after party" with LKFFCT, NGHTCRWLRS, Sunflower, Cape Ferello, The Great Depression, and The Peach Rings. The Weeklings give a public rehearsal at The Saint.

On Friday, Modern Chemistry, NGHTCRWLRS, and Sammy Kay play Jersey City's The Citizen. William Shatner is at The Basie. House of Independents has Upright Citizens Brigade. The Vansaders head up to Montclair for a show at The Meatlocker with Jean Pool, Morningside Lane, Bobby Mahoney and The Seventh Son, Sad Lips, and The Ramparts Rebel. The re-scheduled Jersey Rock Winter Beach Crawl featuring The Black Sox Scandal, The Vaughns, GayGuy/StraightGuy, and The Mosers is at The Saint for free. gods, I Have Been Floated, and Roy Orbitron hit Wonder Bar.

Friday is also my mom's birthday! She is the coolest grandma around, and we couldn't do any of this without her. CDMHQ sends all of our love to my awesome mom for her birthday.

On Super Eve, Saturday, Désir Decir play for free at APYC. It's the birthday party for NJ's dean of music journalism as JerseyBeat's Jim Testa celebrates at Aviv with Peter Stampfel, Lauren Measure, and more. TV Tramps, Black Black Black, Hand Of Weed, and Golden Grass provide the music for the evening portion of the Cheap Thrills Bike Show and Swap Meet at Convention Hall. Porta in JC host Black Wail, Nervous Triggers, and Babraham Lincoln (awesome!). Modern Chemistry, The Vansaders, Goodbye Tiger, and Toy Cars play Wonder Bar.

On Sunday we all wing, guacamole, and beer ourselves into a stupor; but, if that isn't your thing, you could always try The Court Tavern in New Brunswick for Joe Galuppo, 1L, Quinn Gibson, and Brian Erikson. Old Mogul Theatre in Montclair has Gatherers, Forever Losing Sleep, Control, and NYin64.
