Dentist's First Single from Ceilings

Dentist at The Saint two weeks ago for FUZZFEST.

"Awful"

Dentist have kicked off the push for their upcoming Little Dickman Records release, Ceilings. Their sophomore effort comes out on June 24th; and, yesterday, the Asbury Park foursome premiered the first single, "Awful," over at Noisey.

OK. I'm gonna just come right out and say this. I love Dentist. I mean, the people in Dentist. I love them. They're four of my favorite people around, so everything I say about any of the stuff that they do comes with that as a backdrop.

But, but...

Like I said when I reviewed their debut LP, I had never even met them when I started loving their music. CoolMom and I sat through a really long and uncomfortable show at Brighton Bar headlined by Bow Wow Wow in 2013 just so I could go check out Dentist for the first time. We watched their set. I saw them hanging out by the bar, but we never spoke then. It wasn't until later, maybe the third or fourth time I saw them, that we ever even had a conversation. And Justin and Emily were mad at me, giving it to me over something I posted (I didn't write it!) that took a pretty negative stand on 90s revivalism.

Yeah. Then we became friends. I broke that Almost Famous rule and became good friends with a band I was covering. But I never claimed to be a journalist. I just like foisting the music that I like on all of you. And I like this.

"Awful" has been part of Dentist's live set (which I have seen many, many times) for a while now. The album version captures a lot of what I love musically about the band. Emily Bornemann's vocals, Justin Bornemann's lead guitar tones, the contrast between those two things, just the whole package which is rounded out by Nick Kaelblein on bass and (now) Rudy Meier on drums.

So check out the single below. Share it with your friends. And be ready to snap up Dentist's Ceilings when it comes out via (our other really good friends) Little Dickman Records on June 24th.
