Goodbye Tiger at Asbury Lanes in 2015. |
"Santayana"
Howell's Goodbye Tiger are hard to classify. A listen to their 2015 release, The Pixelated Soul, reveals influences like prog and post-rock. At the same time, though, the band do a good job at making their experimental tendencies easily accessible. It allows the listener to delve deep into some of the intricacies or just rock out, depending on one's mood. Goodbye Tiger combine all of that with a live show that amps up the energy level of their recorded output by another order of magnitude.
It's been almost a year since the release of The Pixelated Soul; and, today, the band come to us with their first taste of new material. "Santayana" has its moments of both explosiveness and quiet as it meditates on a mindless walk through life (even throwing in a Modest Mouse reference).
Goodbye Tiger recorded "Santayana" at Lakehouse Recording Studios in Asbury Park. Erik Kase Romero produced, engineered, and mixed. Tim Pannella took care of mastering. That duo is making a serious mark on New Jersey music, and they found an excellent match here with Goodbye Tiger.
"Santayana" will appear on a forthcoming Goodbye Tiger EP; but, for now, you can grab it as a Name Your Price download over at Goodbye Tiger's Bandcamp. The freebie won't last forever, though, so get on it.
