What's Going On: 4/7, 4/8, 4/9 & 4/10, 2016

Dentist are back and ready to get fuzzed out with Ringo Deathstarr, Dinowalrus, and more at FUZZ FEST this Friday at The Saint.

APMFF and FUZZ FEST

Getting back into the swing of things after my SXSW, vacation, and my big life change. It feels like I've been away for a while, and the ramp up has been slow. This weekend is packed with enough stuff (including the Asbury Park Music in Film Festival), though, that I should be back out there with my camera doing my thing.

Things start on Thursday night when Rick Barry, Prim, Matt DeBenedetti, and Goodbye Tiger play The Crib. You can ask someone where that is. Upright Citizens Brigade come back to House of Independents. Enjoy! play a free show at Wonder Bar.

On Friday night, Aloha Friday returns to Anchor's Bend with Primitive Finks playing for free. The Takers, Hot Blood, After The Burn, and The Bomb Shelter Dropouts play a benefit show at Brighton Bar. Wild Americans, Darkwing (solo), and Ashes To Rain are at The Citizen in Jersey City. House of Independents hosts a couple of Asbury Park Music in Film Festival events with a screening of Riding Giants early and an "interactive screening" of Dark Fall featuring performances by Parlor Mob and The Cold Seas. Bobby Bandiera Band and John Eddie are at The Stone Pony. Shellshag, Side Bitch, Big Eyes, and Kicking Spit are in New Brunswick.

Also on Friday, Little Dickman Records present and The Saint hosts FUZZ FEST. Austin shoegazers Ringo Deathstarr headline a packed out bill that also includes Desert Mountain Tribe, Dinowalrus, Dan Waszay and The Blackouts, Lunch Ladies, and Dentist.

On Saturday night, The Battery Electric boys play APYC for free with PMS and The Mood Swings. It's TechFest 6 all day at Brick Presbyterian Church. Bands include Bone & Marrow, Yawn Mower, Cold Weather Company, and lots more. House of Independents has three APMFF events: Two Trains Runnin', A screening / Q & A / performance with Colin Hay, and Eat That Question: Frank Zappa in His Own Words followed by a concert from We Used To Cut The Grass. Yo La Tengo return to their old Hudson County stomping grounds with a show at Loew's Jersey Theatre in Jersey City. The Saint has a full-day's slate of APMFF activities with music in the evening from Moving Panoramas, Mack, Lauren Patti, and Little Bear. Joe Grushecky comes to Wonder Bar. Shellshag continue their big weekend at Shea Stadium with Unlovables, American Darlings, Houseboat, and Al Scorch. Roy Orbitron are also in Brooklyn for a show at "Unit J" with Amos Rose Tudo Bom Bossa, Ryan-O'Neil, and Mama Be.

Sunday brings Preservation Hall Jazz Band to The Stone Pony along with The Tangiers Blues Band featuring Danny Clinch and Nicole Atkins. It looks like Nicole may also be at Langosta Lounge just before that one. You can ask where Hologram City is if you'd like one more chance to see Shellshag along with Al Scorch and Algebra II. Montclair's Old Mogul Theatre hosts a "Jersey for Bernie Benefit" with Hodera, LKFFCT, Wyland, Corrina, Corrina, and more. Thomas Wesley Stern and Quincy Mumford are at Wonder Bar.

That is a big weekend full of movies, music, movies about music, and just tons to do. I hope to see you out there.
