Coming Up With These Little Headlines Is Hard

It's the dog days now. Yesterday was one of the most brutal days I've experienced in a long time. Spent a lot of the day in the CDM hidey hole; but, when I finally ventured out, hoo boy. Anyway, looks like more hot, sticky August weather (I secretly love it.) for a great weekend of shows.

Things start on Thursday with Marco Benevento headlining this this week's free "Jams on the Sand" at Anchor's Bend. The Slow Wire come to Brighton Bar with Tom Barrett of Overlake playing solo and Magic Mountain. House of Independents hosts a free screening of Just Eat It where they're asking attendees to donate five non-perishable food items.

On Friday night, Little Dickman Records continue bringing some excellent sounds to Anchor's Bend with Lost Boy ?, Corrina,Corrina, and Pope Empire. That one's free, of course. Gringo Motel are at APYC. Looms play an NYC release party for their latest EP at The Bitter End. Teenage Halloween are at Montclair's Meatlocker with HTML, Spowder, Lunch Ladies, Brook Pridemore, and Sunflower. Gov't Mule and Blackberry Smoke are on the Stone Pony Summer Stage. Wonder Bar hosts that rarest of Asbury Park shows with Springsteen tribute band, The Rising. Sharkmuffin play the Pancakes & Whiskey 3rd birthday party at Rough Trade with The Skins and The Teen Age.

Friday is also the first night of Signal To Noise Presents Sugarfest at The Citizen in Jersey City. That show will benefit listener-supported WFDU radio and features Dentist, Fruit & Flowers, Karyn Kuhl Band, and The Brixton Riot on Friday night.

Jon Caspi & The First Gun play APYC on Saturday night along with Bobby Mahoney and The Seventh Son. Sandy Mack is next door at Langosta. Brick +Mortar come home to House of Independents with The Moms and Teenage Halloween. Lost Boy ? are at Little Skips in Brooklyn with Sic Tic, Dumb Wolves, and more. It's the second night of Sugarfest at The Citizen with Sink Tapes, Miss Ohio, Kerbivore, and Stuyvesant.

On Sunday, Anchor's Bend hosts GayGuy / StraightGuy, Von Mons, Weird Lode, and Disintegracion (a melding of Ruby The Hatchet and Attic Dancers) for a daytime show. Bone & Marrow and Homeless Apians take their tour to New Hope at John & Peter's. Semiotics' weekender with ManDancing comes to Philly's Pharmacy. Experiment 34, The Turnbucklers, and Curlo are at Scarlet Pub. The Go Go's hit Summer Stage with Best Coast.
