Crescent City Weekend

CoolMom and I haven't taken a CoolDaughter-less vacation since we took a trip back to our old stomping grounds in Seattle in 2012. The confluence of Columbus Day and Yom Kippur gives us a few days off next week, so we decided to make a trip out of it. We're dropping the girls off to see CoolGrandpa and CoolGrammie in Houston, and we're catching a flight to New Orleans for a long weekend. I haven't been looking so forward to something in... ...well... a while. So you'll have to tell me about all the great stuff you see this weekend.

Everything kicks off on Thursday with the weekly open mic at The Asbury's Soundbooth Bar. Corrina, Corrina head up to Crossroads in Garwood for a show with Radnor, Sitting Ducks, and Staten. Our friends in Darkwing and Looms play a show with Hot Curl at Brooklyn's Our Wicked Lady. Rick Barry is at The Saint with The Morgan Freemasons, Puppy Grease, and Rudy Meier.

Gringo Motel play The Asbury on Friday. Brother Andrew holds a release show at APYC with Phoebe Nix and Francis Lombardi. It's Emo Night Brooklyn in Asbury Park at House of Independents once again. SICK SHIT are at MillHill Basement in Trenton with Red Handed Denial, Hampton Hollow, and Doing Better. Juliana Barwick comes to Jersey City's Monty Hall. Dentist head back to Brooklyn's Pet Rescue for a show with The Planes, The Rizzos, Holly Overton, and Sic Tic. ~~You can listen to Renee Maskin over a Manhattan, a steak, and salad bar at What's Your Beef? in Rumson.~~ Hollis Brown comes to Wonder Bar. It's also the first of a two-night Brooklyn homecoming for Titus Andronicus at Market Hotel where they'll be joined by Happiness. Black Flamingos bring Aloha Friday back to Anchor's Bend.

On Saturday, CoolMom and I take off for NOLA. 73 See Gallery hosts an animal shelter benefit featuring Whiner, Rita Fishbone, Bible Gun, WAYNOWAY, and The Gray Company. St. James & The Apostles are back in Asbury for a show at APYC with Stained Glass. The Mowgli's bring their apostrophe to House of Independents with Dreamers. Little Dickman Records present Holiday, Von Mons, Psychiatric Metaphors, and The Off White at The Saint. Built To Spill play The Stone Pony with Alex G. The Weeklings are at Wonder Bar. Titus Andronicus play Night 2 at Market Hotel. And, this time, Justin & Emily of Dentist soundtrack your New York strip, medium rare at What's Your Beef?

The Sunday Blues play The Asbury on Sunday. The Get Up Kids play Monty Hall with Brick + Mortar. The Saint has ehiorobo, Biocratic, OffTop, Brock Berrigan, and Dan Jay.

I also just wanted to mention a few really cool (and really cheap) things happening Monday. Little Dickman Records bring the wild and crazy Surfbort to APYC with Darkwing and The Off White for free. Dentist return to the always free Happy Mondays at Wonder Bar with Beams and Fun While You Wait. And the $5 show at Brighton Bar features We're Ghosts Now, Jessie Elliot, and Jason Achilles, Mezilis.
