Cayetana Back with a New Video. Self-Releasing New Kind of Normal on 5/5.

"Mesa"

Philadelphia pop punk trio, Cayetana, are back with new music today in the form of "Mesa." The band also announced their long-awaited (by me) follow-up to 2014's Nervous Like Me. They're going full-on DIY this time by self-releasing New Kind of Normal via their own Plum Records on May 5th.

"Mesa" and its accompanying video fit nicely with the idea of striking out on your own and taking control of things. Cayetana have, up to this point maybe, been trying to make the best of less than ideal situations ("Together we make flowers out of weeds / We dance in garbage instead of leaves"). The video has the threesome wandering individually through a shared dreamscape before finding each other again. In the final scene, they wake up, share a knowing glance, and get back to work.

That work takes the form of building bass-driven, infectious, (truly) indie pop punk around Augusta Koch's empathy-inducing lyrics; and I'm (still) looking forward to the rest of this album.
