"Glitter"

Charly Bliss are kind of everything I love in music. Their songs feature noisy, over-driven guitars paired with Eva Hendricks's bubblegum pop vocals. Every song is about 3 minutes of crunchy, sing along, pop... ...uh... ...bliss.

The band have been hanging out there in my peripheral vision for a while now. A set at Northside Festival here. A benefit single there. But, up to this point, Charly Bliss have only put out singles and 2014's Soft Serve EP. Yesterday, the band announced that their first full-length, Guppy, is coming from Barsuk Records on April 21st.

The long gestation period -- Charly Bliss have been a band for 6 years. -- seems to have stemmed from a bit of an identity crisis. "We basically had to come to terms with the fact that we are, at heart, a pop band," says guitarist Spencer Fox. That's fine by me, especially considering that what they've settled on sounds like single "Glitter." It's an upbeat song about staying in a relationship even though you kind of hate it and know you may be settling. Charly Bliss aren't the first band to wrap some downer-ish sentiments in day-glo paper, but they do it so well.

Charly Bliss also announced some tour dates that have them swinging back this way with shows in Brooklyn and Manhattan on 4/4 and 4/5. It's just started to hit me that SXSW is coming up quickly, and I'm pretty excited that I should be able to catch them down in Austin as well.
