Some New Stuff from Charly Bliss, Middle Children, and Sharkmuffin

Sharkmuffin announced their second LP and released a single today.

Street Teamin' Edition

I really want to get down to writing a few album reviews, but I always manage to find something to distract me. The CoolDad Music Street Team (me) went out to hang up a few posters for our upcoming (3/25) CoolDad Music 5th Anniversary Party w/ Shellshag, dollys, Smalltalk and The Rock N Roll Hi-Fives this afternoon, so that took up some time. Thankfully, I came across a few pretty interesting things to help you boogie into the weekend.

Charly Bliss, "Percolator"

I don't know. I think I love Charly Bliss more with each thing they release. Yesterday, the band put out a video for single "Percolator" off of their upcoming debut LP, Guppy. Charly Bliss have decided to embrace their pop sensibility whole-heartedly; and that, in combination with some loud, 90s-inspired guitar, is something I find irresistible.

Guppy is due on 4/21 from Barsuk Records.

Middle Children, "True"

Middle Children seem to be the "next big thing" in indie rock. That is, if you can consider someone like Patrick Jennings -- who's been producing good music for quite some time with bands like Hot New Mexicans and Purple 7 -- as someone who'd be in the running for "next big thing." His current project has been garnering some well-deserved attention, and they just put out their album, Earth Angel, today via Let's Pretend Records.

I'll dig into that a little bit later when I start writing all those reviews I promised, but Middle Children also released a new video today for single "True." The video features dogs playing musical instruments through some utterly seamless special effects, and the song is reminiscent of Wilco from back when Jeff Tweedy and Jay Bennett were working together.

Sharkmuffin, "Space Glow"

Just as they get set to head out on their "Girls Gone #SXSWild" tour with Ex-Girlfriends, Brooklyn's Sharkmuffin have announced that their sophomore LP, Tsuki, will be available via Little Dickman Records on May 5th. They also released the album's first single, "Space Glow."

"Space Glow" features the band's signature combination of garage, psych, and surfiness as it weaves between dreamy and jagged over the course of its just over 2 minutes.

Sharkmuffin will be joining us at The Saint on Sunday, March, 26th, along with Kino Kimino, Ex-Girlfriends, Lunch Ladies, and EVL MOMMZ. Come watch Sharkmuffin guitarist, Tarra Thiessen, play in three different bands.

You can catch them way sooner than that, though, as they play The Footlight Bar in Ridgewood, Queens tonight with Fruit & Flowers, Ex-Girlfriends, and Hawt Mess.

Here are the rest of Sharkmuffin's tour dates, too.
