What's Going On: 6/1, 6/2, 6/3 & 6/4, 2017

CoolDad Music brings you not one, but two great shows this weekend.

Pride Weekend

If it's the first weekend in June, that means it's Pride Weekend; and there are plenty of chances to celebrate. Hopefully, it won't rain on anybody's parade; but, even if it does, I'm sure it won't temper anyone's enthusiasm.

Things get started on Thursday night when American Trappist begin their Thursday night summer residency at Asbury Park Yacht Club with help from Rachel Ana Dobken. latewaves, Wetbrain, and prim play a free show in Abury's Bond St. Basement. Johnny Mathis comes to Count Basie in Red Bank. Our contributor and good buddy, Matt Chrystal, hosts a birthday bash for his friend Joe Stalker. Stalker Stalker Con happens at Crossroads and features a Black Sabbath cover set from Deaf Rhino, 90s grunge classics from the GayGuy / StraightGuy and Yawn Mower guys, and Headmotor. Kilkenny Ale House in Newark hosts Joy Cleaner, Garbage Brain, Solenoids, and -- the latest project from Screaming Females' bassist King Mike -- Sweaty. Pink Mexico and Fruit & Flowers are at Brooklyn's St. Vitus with Cup and Lola Pistola. Lulu is at Tim McCloone's Supper Club in Asbury. Seaside Caves play a free show at Asbury's Porta National Park. CoolDaughter #1 participates in her last-ever spring chorus sing-song at the school gym.

Aloha Friday is back at the Anchor's Bend in Asbury on, well, Friday. Zaritza and Tympanic Plexus play a free show at APYC. Rebecca Emont, Map Of Rome, and Dead Flowers play Soundbooth Bar at The Asbury. Sean Kiely and Jeff Taylor play a release show at Iris Records in Jersey City for their Willow, Texas 7". The Slackers are at Wonder Bar. This weekend's slate of tribute bands at The Stone Pony kicks off with Almost Queen.

On Saturday, Grin N Bear and Little Bear are at APYC. Shut Up, Tango Machina, Grey Goes Black, and Fury Within play Brighton Bar in Long Branch. It's the re-scheduled WFDU fundraiser hosted by our friend Sugarblast Al C at NYC's Mercury Lounge. That one features Antietam, Honey Radar, and Big Bliss with all proceeds going to support independent radio. pioneer the eel, The Big Drops, Bradykinin, and Young Legs play Sticks & Stones in Hawthorne. Montclair's Tierney's Tavern holds the first day of their annual spring music fest. Okilly Dokilly, Beatallica, and Experiment 34 are at Wonder Bar. The Stone Pony brings you more tributes with Tramps Like Us.

Also on Saturday, CoolDad Music brings a super-solid bill to Asbury Park Music Foundation with Exmaid, Nervous Triggers, School Drugs, Finchler, and Jeff Lane of dollys. This is an all-ages event featuring lots of our friends, a rare performance from Finchler, and Jeff's sad songs. Don't miss it.

But wait... ...There's more. CoolDad Music and Indian Summer AP have joined forces to bring you another great show on Sunday. This one's at Anchor's Bend and features Roadside Graves and Noordzo. Roadside Graves played for us at Anchor's Bend last year; and it was, in all honesty, one of my favorite days ever. With Noordzo on this one, I think it will be even better. Oh, and it's free.

There's other stuff on Sunday, too, including the Pride Weekend Main Event and parade through Asbury Park. Ike Willis of Frank Zappa's band is at Langosta Lounge with We Used To Cut The Grass. Tierney's Tavern rolls on with their music festival. It's the second annual Sarah Mo's Gender Bender at House of Independents.

Get out there this weekend; and, if you can, please come say hi at our shows on Saturday or Sunday.
