First things first. Back in 1984, you had your Ghost Busters, The Terminator, The Karate Kid, Sixteen Candles, Gremlins, and Footloose. You had your Purple Rain, The Smiths, Born in the U.S.A., Let It Be, The Unforgettable Fire, Reckoning, and 1984. And you had a 14-year-old CoolDad who graduated from middle school. I got to make a speech -- the "Farewell Speech" -- at the ceremony. Tomorrow night, CoolDaughter #1 graduates from that very same middle school. She's got the exact same speaking slot -- the "Farewell Speech" -- as her very proud CoolDad. She's worked hard and has so much ahead of her. Congrats to a hard-working, beautiful person. She likes Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Dr. Who, and Divide.
Anyway...
Things get started on Thursday night with The Ghost Wolves from Austin, TX playing a show at Belmar's 10th Avenue Burrito. They're joined on that one by Fast Clare. Toy Cars and Philly's No Thank You are at Anchor's Bend. American Trappist continue their weekly stint at APYC. Basic Bitches release their latest at Brooklyn's Cobra Club with The Kominas, Giant Kitty, and Megaweapon. Yawn Mower head up to Crossroads in Garwood for a show with Crust, Stories, and The Inversion Circus. Michael Franti is on The Summer Stage.
On Friday, Lyons release their debut at Anchor's Bend with help from The Cold Seas and Holiday. Pepperwine play The Asbury. P-Dub hits APYC. Glazer, Joy Cleaner, Ultra Deluxe, and Hiroshi Jaguar are at Montclair's Meatlocker. It's another installment of the Makin Waves Rock Circus at Roxy & Dukes with music from Will Wood & The Tapeworms, Experiment 34, Ser Xerri, and Pixel Face. Fruit & Flowers release their video for "Subway Surfer" at Sunnyvale in Brooklyn. Joining them for that are Kino Kimino, Good Tiny, and Big Bliss. There's a great and highly-recommended $5 show at Asbury Park Brewery featuring Merge Records recording artist, Coco Hames, Little Bandit, and Good Luck Spaceman. Levy & The Oaks, The Mercury Brothers, Full Bliss, and Jeff Linden and The Black Spot Society play Paul's in Lake Como. CoolDaughter #1 gives the Farewell Address at her middle school graduation.
Saturday night brings us the record release / final show by YJY at Asbury Park Music Foundation. They'll be celebrating the release of The Enduring YJY as well as everything else they've accomplished as a band with help from NGHTCRWLRS, Avery and The Man Devils, Julian Fulton and The Zombie Gospel, and Jeff Lane. Following that, Avery and her Man Devils head over to Convention Hall's Overlook for the Weird Summer 1st Birthday Party.
Also on Saturday, Lowlight get to live out their lifelong dream of playing with Daughter Vision at APYC. They're joined on that by Exaltron. The Tide Bends, Yawn Mower, Brian Bonz, and Wetbrain play Anchor's Bend. GayGuy / StraightGuy, Fruit & Flowers, and Plus Plus Minus are at Bond St. Basement. CoolDad faves, High Waisted, play a 1pm show at Riis Park Beach Bazaar. Paul's Tavern has The Best Of The Worst, Stuck Lucky, School Drugs, The Moms, and Ladder Match. Willie Nile comes to Wonder Bar.
Sunday is Fathers' Day, of course. Chris Brown hits Anchor's Bend with his dad, Charlie, for a set. Frank Lombardi and Joe P play APYC. The Battery Electric are in Elizabeth at Cinfano's with Altered Cross, DejaGravy, Crust, and Booth HC. gates, Vasudeva, and Head North play Jersey City's Monty Hall. AFI are at Starland.
