What's Going On: 6/8, 6/9, 6/10 & 6/11, 2017

Charles Bradley and Buzzcocks play Punk Rock Bowling. Northside Festival is back. Here's a shot I took even though I got there after 5pm last year.

Really Just Lots Going On

Big, big weekend. The Asbury Park incarnation of Punk Rock Bowling is back for a second go-round; and Northside Festival, who have instituted an extremely lame all-press-badges-must-be-picked-up-by-5pm requirement, takes over Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and environs. I'm trying to figure out how to work stuff in among end-of-school-year obligations and the huge inconvenience of not having a Northside badge until, probably, Saturday.

Things kick off on Thursday with a great Northside show at Alphaville that's already sold out featuring Meatbodies, Surfbort, and Stuyedeyed. Here at home, American Trappist continue their free summer residency at APYC. Sammy Kay plays Porta National Park. Back in the BK, Big Bliss, ex-mothers, Retail, and Cash Bundles are at Bohemian Grove. Our friends, Cigar City Management, host a Brooklyn version of their Nochebuena Party at Gold Sounds with Salt Cathedral, Dirty Dishes, Fruit & Flowers, Yucky Duster, and Parrot Dream. Dentist head up for a Northside set at Lantern Hall with Jody Porter & The Berlin Waltz and Best Behavior. Dirty Projectors play the Northside main event in McCarren Park with Kamasi Washington and Jay Som. LKFFCT, Smock, and Shred Flintstone are at Montclair's Meatlocker. The Battery Electric head to Jersey City for a show with Giuda and Wyldlife at Monty Hall. The Michael Allman Band are at Wonder Bar. CoolDaughter 2 makes her debut on the cello for her 4th grade orchestra.

On Friday, The Asbury Park Night Bazaar returns to Convention Hall. There's music at Anchor's Bend for that one featuring Plus Plus Minus, The Roaches of Red Bank, and Tango Machina. Asbury Park Music Foundation hosts an EP release show for America Part Two that also has Have A Good Season, Corrina Corrina, Kinder Than Wolves, and Paulie and The Bluechips. Little Dickman Records bring Von Mons, The Off White, and Minnesota's The Coax to APYC.

Also on Friday, Sharkmuffin come home from their UK adventure with a show at Brooklyn's Cape House featuring Dead Leaf Echo, Slang King, Dead Stars, Grim Streaker, and Little Racer. Crossroads has SAMIAM, Candy Hearts, The Wait, and Popeye from Farside. Punk Rock Bowling holds a kickoff party at House of Independents in Asbury with Chuck Ragan, Joe Jack Talcum, and Jared Hart. CoolDad faves, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, play MHOW with Beverly and Ablebody. The Dwarves play a PRB club show at The Pony with Blanks 77, Stigma, and Wyldlife. Buzzcocks headline Webster Hall in NYC with The So So Glos and Stuyedeyed.

Punk Rock Bowling proper kicks off on Saturday on the Stone Pony Summer Stage. Saturday's lineup includes The Specials, Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires, Dillinger Four, The Explosion, PUP with everything being kicked off by local faves, The Vansaders. The official afterparty is inside the Pony with Sick Of It All, Street Dogs, and Giuda. There's an unofficial afterparty at APYC featuring The Battery Electric and Jon Caspi & The First Gun with Dez Cadena of Black Flag joining them. Pet Rescue in Brooklyn hosts an unofficial Northside showcase featuring Big Bliss, Kerbivore, Big Quiet, and Dead Stars. Exploding In Sound Records takes over Brooklyn's Sunnyvale for their own showcase that features Baked, BIG UPS, Stove, Two Inch Astronaut, Kal Marks, Fond Han, and more.

Day 2 of Punk Rock Bowling happens on Sunday with NOFX, Buzzcocks, Lifetime, and more -- including Hot Blood. Up in Hoboken, it's the Hoboken Spring Music & Arts Festival with music from Karyn Kuhl Band, Overlake, RockNRoll Hi-Fives, Glenn Morrow's Cry For Help, and more. Thursday, PUP, The Hotelier, Jeff Rosenstock, and Tony Molina play Brooklyn's McCarren Park for Northside.

There's a lot here, and I feel like I missed a whole bunch. Keep me honest, and have a great weekend. Don't forget your sunscreen and plenty of H2O.
