The YouTube Hole with Charly Bliss, Pile, and Demure For Sure

Charly Bliss have a new video.

Killing Time on the YouTubes

So, now, the entire CoolFamily has left me at home to my own devices. CoolMom and CoolDaughter #1 are relaxing on a beach in Thailand while CoolDaughter #2 is in Maine with CoolGrandma. I had high hopes for these few days; but it's just been a lot of hanging around, eating whatever I can find in the freezer, and watching videos on YouTube.

I particularly enjoy watching tech and camera reviews; but, every once in a while, I come across some new music videos to share.

Charly Bliss, "DQ"

"DQ" is a standout track from Charly Bliss's debut LP Guppy. Today, the band released a video for the song written and co-directed (with Andrew Costa) by frontperson, Eva Hendricks. It bounces between being a literal interpretation of the lyrics to just being weird and fun. It totally -- and this is not a lie -- made me feel like having pasta; and, wouldn't you know it, my parents invited my lonely self over for pasta tonight. Score.

Charly Bliss headline Music Hall of Williamsburg with Sad13 and Bellows in 9/28.

Pile, "Texas"

Earlier this year, Boston's Pile released their fifth album, A Hairshirt of Purpose, with Exploding In Sound Records. Today, they give us the Adric Giles-directed video for "Texas." The song is pummeling and kind of stressed-out feeling; and the animated video captures that perfectly, its main character running and nervously looking over its shoulder against potentially seizure-inducing background imagery.

And, while we're talking about Texas, why not donate to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to help out your neighbors who are really suffering down there.

Demure For Sure, "French Kiss"

I've had a few things come through my inbox from Demure For Sure since the release of the project's (AKA NYC's Zach De Sorbo) Tie-Dye Shadows. The album ranges from pop to psychedelic to art rock, and it's all interesting. Today, De Sorbo released the video for album track "French Kiss." It's a visual and sonic freak-out that mixes heavy psych with glam. The video has a retro feel about it that -- even though it contains no real violence or gore -- recalls low-budget grindhouse films. To me, anyway. You can see for yourself.

Tie-Dye Shadows is out now.
