Two Asbury shows from The Battery Electric this weekend

We love August here at CDMHQ. Swim teams are mostly on their 1-month-per-year break (except for that little trip CoolDaughter #1 and I will be taking down to Richmond so that she can swim for about 5 total minutes over the course of 4 days). Summer camp comes to an end. It's just a month for us to relax. One of my favorite ways to unwind is by seeing live music.

You can start doing that on Thursday night when American Trappist continue their summer residency at Asbury Park Yacht Club. Mike Chick of Yawn Mower plays a rare acoustic set at Dark City Brewing. Brian Erickson of The Paper Jets is at The Chubby Pickle in Highlands with Gwynne Alden. Looms play a hometown show at The Laundromat in Morristown, NJ on the eve of their album release. Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires continue their conquest of the NY / NJ area when they play Brooklyn's Union Pool with NO ICE and THICK. The Battery Electric play Porta National Park.

Friday brings another installment of Aloha Fridays with Black Flamingos to Anchor's Bend. Well Wisher, Secret Mountain, Curtis Cooper, Teenage Halloween, and EVL MOMMZ all play a Planned Parenthood Benefit at Asbury Park Music Foundation. Speed Queen, Governess, Dirty, The Carvels, and GIRL are at Brighton Bar in Long Branch. Rancid and Dropkick Murphys bring their tour to The Stone Pony Summer Stage with very special guest, The Bouncing Souls.

On Saturday, The Battery boys are at Bond St. Basement with Governess and Crazy and The Brains. Holiday and Algebra II play APYC after the Melvins' show at The Stone Pony. By the way, Melvins play the Pony. Erotic Novels, Alone In Dead Bars, Grin and Bear, Sketchy, and Bloody Lips are at Clash Bar in Clifton. Saturday afternoon at the Danny Clinch exhibit in The Asbury features a listening party for The Vansaders' and The Cryptkeeper Five's upcoming new releases. Each will also be playing acoustic. Rachel Ana Dobken is also on that one. Pinact are at Millhill Basement in Trenton with Seeing Snakes, The Split Seconds, and Doc Rotten. Dramarama return to Wonder Bar.

The Brighton has two shows on Sunday. The early one features The Clydes celebrating the release of their latest EP with Underlined Passages, Casino Sundae, and Trim Tabs. 18th and Addison play the evening show with Matty Carlock and Ben Piper. Herbie Hancock is at Count Basie in Red Bank. Garden State Line play Wonder Bar's "Retreat Sunday" in the afternoon.

The Jersey Shore Film Festival takes place all weekend at House of Independents, so check out what's happening there.
