Shiny Objects
Lots of very, very cool new stuff to distract me from the difficult business of writing album reviews.
High Waisted, "Firebomb"
Last month, High Waisted put out their split 7" with The Coax on Little Dickman Records. Today, High Waisted released a brand new video for one of the songs on that split, "Firebomb." Chris Dickman and I went to the incendiary (Ugh, Jim. Really? "Incendiary?") release show at BerlinNYC, and there's really nothing quite like a High Waisted live show on their home turf in the big city.
"Firebomb" is a real departure from the retro, girl group, surf vibes of High Waisted's debut LP. It's a high-energy rocker, and the video intercuts some High Waisted live performance footage with images of singer / guitarist, Jess Dye (and friends), in the bedroom.
High Waisted are still on tour with The Coax. They're making their way back home, though, and will be at The Barbary in Philly on 10/28 and at Brooklyn's Rough Trade on 11/4.
Shellshag, High Above Ohio 7"
Yesterday, our buds and inspirations in Shellshag released three new songs in the form of High Above Ohio. They also released an appropriately jittery, self-directed video for one of the tracks, "Adderall Things Considered."
The first two songs of the set were recorded by Vacation's Jerri Queen, and both "Community" and "Ohio" are big, reverby, and fuzzed out in a Jesus and Mary Chain kind of way. Beautiful stuff.

Shellshag are about to set out on a big tour. They'll be joining AJJ for several of those dates. They return home for a show at Brooklyn's Silent Barn on 11/24.
