Premiere: New Single from Sailor Boyfriend. Debut Album Out Friday, 11/3.

Sailor Boyfriend by Andy Waldron

"No More Heroes"

Sailor Boyfriend are the Jersey City new wave duo of Andy Waldron (ex-Conover / Hexdog, synths, programming, vocals) and Alex Mercuri (guitar, bass, vocals). Following the Valentine's Day release of their American Goblin EP, the pair say they are ready for the Big Time, which  -- they astutely observe -- means, "managing your expectations and self-releasing a debut album on Bandcamp." That album, True Romantics, goes live this Friday, November 3rd. Today, we have single "No More Heroes" to get you psyched for that.

I asked Waldron and Mercuri for some thoughts on the song.

Andy: "No More Heroes" is a punky lil' thing. I wrote it a while ago to try and deal with performative allyship – when a figure says they are an ally with a certain demographic but acts against that group's interests, or gives a platform to discriminatory rhetoric – and how to combat neutrality in a situation when there are clear moral stakes.

Alex: There's a bunch of hollerin' on it.

Andy: That too.

"No More Heroes" is, in fact, a punky (or post-punky) lil' thing with a bunch of hollerin' on it. It features a dark, retro sound that's a perfect fit for its angry call to real action over empty words.

Sailor Boyfriend will be playing a benefit show for Jersey City's Cornwell Kids Drama Club on November 18th at Cathedral Hall in JC. They'll be part of a bill that also includes Cicada Radio, Acqui, Pinc Louds, Liz Trakhtenberg, and a secret special guest.

Stream "No More Heroes" here, and look for True Romantics to pop up over at Sailor Boyfriend's Bandcamp page this Friday, November 3rd.
