Pony Up to The Saint
CoolMom and I had a lot of fun seeing The Psychedelic Furs at Count Basie last night. Then, I got home to watch the last few outs of the Yankees' victory over the best team in the American League, the Cleveland Indians. It was a good night. Looks like it could be a good weekend as well.
Things start off tonight with a "CoolDad Music Presents" burner at The Saint. I'm legitimately excited about this one. It features Brooklyn's Baked and High Pony, Twin Ponies from Phoenix, and Psychiatric Metaphors who hail from the general space around NY and NJ. This is a solid bill, top to bottom, of bands I'm psyched for you to see, and it's only $5. Come.
There's other stuff on Thursday night, too. Joe P and Frank Lombardi continue their residency at Langosta Lounge. Matisyahu returns to the Pony. Our friends in A Deer A Horse play with Kal Marks, Baby Birds Don't Drink Milk, and White Pisces at Trans-Pecos in Queens.
On Friday night, Avery and The Man Devils celebrate the release of their video for "Blood" with a show at The Asbury. Jon Caspi & The First Gun hit Brighton Bar with Dez Cadena and The Extras Inc. LKFFCT celebrate the release of Dawn Chorus at an undisclosed location (ask) with Smock, C.R. and The Degenerates, and Delicate Flowers. We're Ghosts Now, Girl, and Goodnightmorning are at The Chubby Pickle in Highlands. Baked and Twin Ponies are together again at The Footlight in Queens with Lost Boy ? and BLUFFING (See them twice!). Taylor Tote does a live performance video shoot at The Pony. Quality Living, A Bird, The Bitter Chills, Fairmont, and pioneer the eel play for free at Stosh's in Fair Lawn. Tranquility, The Flats, latewaves, and America Part Two play Asbury Park Brewery.
Asbury Underground, which features over 50 of your favorite local musicians, takes place all throughout downtown Asbury on Saturday afternoon. The Asbury Hotel hosts an afterparty in the Soundbooth Bar. MACK and Joe P play APYC that evening. The Skullers are at Fox and Crow in Jersey City. Lowlight head to Pino's in Highland Park for a show with Mean Siders, Home Brew String Club, and The Happy Fits.
On Sunday, Vancouver's The Courtneys -- who released one of my favorite albums of the year -- visit Brooklyn's Park Church Co-op with Cotillion and Versing. Fruit & Flowers play Silent Barn in Brooklyn with Twist, Hush Puppy, and Dig Nitty. The Stone Pony has an absolutely stacked bill topped by Against Me! that also features Bleached and The Dirty Nil.
There is plenty to do this weekend; and, really, I can't think of a better way to kick everything off than by joining us at The Saint on Thursday night for Baked, Twin Ponies, High Pony, and Psychiatric Metaphors. Come say hi. I'll buy you a root beer, but don't drink and drive.
